Volunteers gather for annual Town of Cicero Cleanup Week drive
The Town of Cicero launched their annual Town-wide Community Cleanup with volunteers from the schools, local businesses, community organizations and the Town’s many Departments.
The cleanup drive is coordinated every year by Town Assessor Emilio “Emo” Cundari who supervises the volunteers to not only pickup litter but to also identify areas of the town where there is graffiti that can be targeted and scheduled for removal.
The Town of Cicero annual Cleanup Drive has been recognized by many agencies including by the State of Illinois for its effectiveness not only in cleaning up the community but also in bringing the community together to work with each other and improve community relations.
Cundari welcomed the volunteers and thanked all of the organizations that were participating in the event during the Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 11, 2024, which showcases a weeklong effort to raise cleanup efforts in the community.
Volunteers included students from Cicero School District 99 and Morton High school District 201. Officials of the Cicero Police Department, Cicero Fire Department and many departments pitched in.
Food for lunch for the volunteers were provvided by many local businesses including McDonalds, Steak & Egger, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Paisans Pizzaria, Waldo’s Pizzaria, Anthony’s Pizzaria, and Scatchell’s Beef ad Pizzaria.
Also on hand to help to coordinate the cleanup drive were Cicero Chaplain and Business License Director Ismael Vargas and Fire Chief Jeff Penzkofer. Trustees Blanca Vargas and Victor Garcia rolled up their sleeves and helped the volunteers at the event.
“Every year we put together a great event to get the community to come out and clean. We work with non-profits, churches and non-government agencies to work together, to be united and to make a difference in our community,” Vargas said.
“This is a great way for people to come out and get to know each other as a community and we want to thank President Larry Dominick, Assessor Emilio Cundari for coordinating this annual event and all of the Town’s board of trustees for their support.”

Los voluntarios se reúnen para la Campaña Anual de Limpieza de Cicero
El Municipio de Cicero lanzó su Campaña Anual de Limpieza Comunitaria en toda la ciudad con voluntarios de las escuelas, negocios locales, organizaciones comunitarias y los numerosos departamentos del Municipio.
La campaña de limpieza es coordinada cada año por el Tasador Municipal Emilio “Emo” Cundari, quien supervisa a los voluntarios no solo para recoger basura, sino también para identificar áreas de la ciudad donde hay graffiti que se puede señalar y programar para su eliminación.
La Campaña Anual de Limpieza de Cicero ha sido reconocida por muchas agencias, incluido el Estado de Illinois, por su efectividad no solo en limpiar la comunidad, sino también en unir a la comunidad para trabajar juntos y mejorar las relaciones comunitarias.
Cundari dio la bienvenida a los voluntarios y agradeció a todas las organizaciones que participaron en el evento durante el Día de Limpieza el sábado 11 de mayo de 2024, que marca un esfuerzo de una semana para aumentar los esfuerzos de limpieza en la comunidad.
Los voluntarios incluyeron a estudiantes del Distrito Escolar 99 de Cicero y del Distrito Escolar Morton 201. Funcionarios del Departamento de Policía de Cicero, el Departamento de Bomberos de Cicero y muchos departamentos colaboraron.

También estuvieron presentes para ayudar a coordinar la campaña de limpieza el Capellán de Cicero y Director de Licencias Comerciales Ismael Vargas y el Jefe de Bomberos Jeff Penzkofer. La Síndico Blanca Vargas se remangó y ayudó a los voluntarios en el evento. También se ofreció como voluntario el Síndico Víctor García.
“Cada año organizamos un gran evento para que la comunidad salga a limpiar. Trabajamos con organizaciones sin fines de lucro, iglesias y agencias no gubernamentales para trabajar juntos, estar unidos y marcar la diferencia en nuestra comunidad”, dijo Vargas.
“Esta es una excelente manera para que las personas salgan y se conozcan como comunidad, y queremos agradecer al Presidente Larry Dominick, al Tasador Emilio Cundari por coordinar este evento anual y a todos los miembros de la junta del Municipio por su apoyo”.
