Cicero Honors Team Rubicon for helping flood victims

The Town of Cicero presented members of Team Rubicon with a Resolution honoring them for their volunteer work to help clean up the homes of Cicero residents whose homes were damaged by Flooding.
In addition Diana Dominick, the Town of Cicero Director of the Senior Center, also presented Team Rubicon with a letter expressing the gratitude of the entire town for their volunteer work.
The resolution and letter were both presented to members of Team Rubicon at the Board Meeting on Tuesday Sept. 8, 2023.
Here is the text of the Resolution, followed by the text of the letter:
RESOLUTION HONORING TEAM RUBICON FOR FLOOD ASSISTANCE
WHEREAS The Town of Cicero homeowners experienced what emergency management officials describe as a once-in-500-years rainstorm flood with record-rainwater floods that damaged thousands of homes in Cicero, Berwyn, Oak Park and portions of Chicago; and
WHEREAS The Town of Cicero provided an immediate response to assist homeowners and ensure their safety, and petitioned for Federal FEMA Support to helps its residents; and
WHEREAS The Town of Cicero welcomed volunteer organizations from around the country who helped including Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises; and
WHEREAS Team Rubicon was founded following the Haiti earthquake in 2010, the organization has grown to more than 150,000 volunteers across the United States and has launched over 1,100 operations domestically and internationally; and
WHEREAS volunteers from Team Rubicon Team Rubicon serve communities in need, from international locations to responding to local crises; and
WHEREAS Led by Rick Kolomay and Colin Monk, Team Rubicon and their volunteers came to the Town of Cicero and helped homeowners including many Senior Citizens whose homes were damaged by the floods of July 2, 2023; and
WHEREAS Team Rubicon volunteers were able to assist nearly 110 homeowners including cleaning out their basements and removing water, supplementing the daily work that was being done by the Town of Cicero’s Departments of Water and Public Works;
NOW THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees this 8th Day of August 2023 do hereby Honor Team Rubicon and its volunteers for their work to help those Cicero residents and seniors in need; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to Team Rubicon representatives Rick Kolomay and Colin Monk to mark their achievements.
The resolution was signed by President Larry Dominick and Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias.

President Dominick praised Team Rubicon during the meeting.
“We got this company that volunteered Team Rubicon and they came out and they’ve been doing a magnificent job. My heart goes out to all the people that lost a lot of stuff. The Town of Cicero will do everything we can. If you have a problem, call Town Hall and we’ll see if we got someone that can come out and help you,” said Town President Larry Dominick.
Town President Dominick explains how he immediately called and asked for help to get Team Rubicon to Cicero.
“There’s many other places that need Team Rubicon and by being the first ones to get on the phone and call the state reps and the congressmen. That got us in a better position to get Team Rubicon. Right now they’re here and we have a lot of people that need their help,” said Town President Dominick who visited one of the many homes being cleaned by Team Rubicon.

El Municipio de Cicero entregó a los miembros de Team Rubicon una Resolución en su honor por su trabajo voluntario para ayudar a limpiar las casas de los residentes de Cicero cuyos hogares resultaron dañados por las inundaciones.
Además, Diana Dominick, Directora del Centro de Personas Mayores del Municipio de Cicero, también entregó a Team Rubicon una carta expresando la gratitud de toda la comunidad por su labor voluntaria.

RESOLUCIÓN EN HONOR A TEAM RUBICON POR SU AYUDA EN CASO DE INUNDACIÓN
CONSIDERANDO que los propietarios del Municipio de Cicero experimentaron lo que los funcionarios de gestión de emergencias describen como una inundación por tormenta de lluvia única en 500 años, con inundaciones récord de aguas pluviales que dañaron miles de hogares en Cicero, Berwyn, Oak Park y partes de Chicago; y
CONSIDERANDO que el Municipio de Cicero brindó una respuesta inmediata para ayudar a los propietarios y garantizar su seguridad, y solicitó el apoyo federal de FEMA para ayudar a sus residentes; y
CONSIDERANDO que el Municipio de Cicero dio la bienvenida a organizaciones de voluntarios de todo el país que prestaron ayuda, incluido Team Rubicon, una organización humanitaria dirigida por veteranos que sirve a comunidades globales antes, durante y después de desastres y crisis; y
