ComEd donates trees to Cicero residents

During the June 25th, 2024 board meeting the Department of Housing Director Tom Tomschin along with Grant Administrator Jose Alvarez presented the board with free trees donated by ComEd for Cicero residents. 

“Word has gotten out that Town President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero is really pushing to increase our tree canopy here in Town,” said Director Tomschin.

ComEd reached out to Alvarez offering the Town free trees. With great pleasure Alvarez accepted the donation.

“The varieties of trees are smaller that people in Cicero could actually plant in their yards and not worry about it taking over or damaging foundations,” shared Director Tomschin.

The trees which arrived in Cicero via mail order were set up on a table with a sign informing residents to please take one.

“I just want to thank Town President Larry Dominick for his commitment to and increasing the tree canopy here in town and always looking out for the best interest of the residents helping out our environment,” said Director Tomschin.

Alvarez will continue to work alongside Tomschin and reaching out to ComEd for more tree donations for residents.

“We are definitely going to reach out to ComEd if this is a success,” shared Director Tomschin.

It wasn’t long after that the table began to look empty. Without a doubt, Cicero residents are also interested in increasing the Cicero tree canopy.

Durante la reunión de la junta del 25 de junio de 2024, el director del Departamento de Vivienda, Tom Tomschin, junto con el administrador de subvenciones, José Álvarez, presentaron a la junta árboles gratis donados por ComEd para los residentes de Cicero. 

“Se ha corrido la voz de que el presidente del municipio, Larry Dominick, y el municipio de Cicero realmente están presionando para aumentar nuestra cubierta arbórea aquí en el municipio”, dijo el director Tomschin.

ComEd se acercó a Álvarez para ofrecerle árboles gratis al municipio. Con mucho gusto Álvarez aceptó la donación.

“Las variedades de árboles son más pequeñas y la gente de Cicero podría plantarlas en sus jardines sin preocuparse de que se apoderen o dañen los cimientos”, compartió el director Tomschin.

Los árboles que llegaron a Cicero por correo se colocaron en una mesa con un letrero que informaba a los residentes que por favor tomaran uno.

“Solo quiero agradecer al presidente municipal, Larry Dominick, por su compromiso y el aumento de la copa de los árboles aquí en el municipio y por siempre buscar el mejor interés de los residentes para ayudar a nuestro medio ambiente”, dijo el director Tomschin.

Álvarez continuará trabajando junto a Tomschin y contactando a ComEd para obtener más donaciones de árboles para los residentes.

“Definitivamente nos comunicaremos con ComEd si esto es un éxito”, compartió el director Tomschin.

No pasó mucho tiempo después de que la mesa empezó a verse vacía. Sin duda, los residentes de Cicero también están interesados ​​en aumentar la copa de los árboles de Cicero.
