Cicero Trustees Garcia, Cava Vargas sworn in to new terms
Cicero Trustees Victor Garcia, John Cava and Blanca Vargas were sworn in to new terms of office at the May 9, 2023 Town of Cicero Board meeting following their successful elections last month.
The trustees were feted at a celebration by Town after the board meeting and were joined by friends and family members.
“Congratulations to three hard working people that live in the town of Cicero. They do a great job for the town. They have lived here a long time and they know what the people need and what they want,” said Town President Larry Dominick.
“Congratulations and keep up the good work.”

Victor Garcia is a Sponsor Coordinator with the Clyde Park District, working there since 2007. He began his public service in 2005 with the election of Town President Larry Dominick, working as coordinator of Special Projects in the President’s office, and also as an elected member of the Clyde Park District Board of Commissioners.
Garcia also served as a member of the Community Development Committee and the Town of Cicero Zoning Board. Previously before entering government service, he worked in the manufacturing industry where he also served as a union chief steward.
He also serves as a board member with the Nazarene Brotherhood and has volunteered as a coach for local basketball, baseball and soccer youth leagues.
Victor is married to Maria, and they have three children, Victor, Edwin and Evelyn. The Garcia’s have lived in the Town Cicero more than 20 years. The Garcia family is actively involved in the Catholic Church through several churches in the Town of Cicero.

“I want to thank on behalf of my family the support that I have received,” Garcia said.
“It is very emotional to be here. I have served six years now and I want to Thank President Dominick and the board for their support. I am very proud to serve the Town of Cicero and I want to thank all of the residents for their trust.”
John Cava was born and raised in the Town of Cicero. As a child, he attended Drexel Elementary School before going to St. Joseph’s High School in Westchester. After graduation, he continued his education at Triton College.
John is married to his wife, Alice, and has 3 children – Travis, Tiffany and Eugenia – and four grandchildren – Isabela, Lucia, CJ and Alana. John was an employee for Cicero School District 99 for 35 years, the last 27 at Cicero East School, before retiring in June 2018.
As a child, John played baseball on the South Cicero Little League before joining American Legion ball and later high school baseball. He was elected to the Cicero Library Board, serving for 6 years. In his leisure time he enjoys traveling, his home, gardening, his pool and dining out. He is always ready to see and explore new places!

Blanca Vargas is the third Latina to serve as a Trustee, appointed to the office on March 22, 2022 filling the vacancy created by the passing on January 7, 2022 of former Trustee Larry Banks.
“I want to thank Town President Larry Dominick and the board for their support and helping me in every way possible. And the Cicero residents for believing in me in electing me and my fellow trustees to another term in office,” Cava said.
Ms. Vargas who has two daughters, Sarah and Bianca, first began her activism in 1972 working as a Hispanic liaison for former Governor Dan Walker and later for Governor Pat Quinn.
She was the first Hispanic woman to be elected to the position of Democratic Committee person in 2018, a position she stepped down from to assume her seat on the Town Board.
Vargas also has worked with LULAC, The League of United Latin American Citizens, and in 2021 served as a Hispanic Liaison for the Town of Cicero until her appointment.

“Thank you for everyone who is here. I want to thank President Larry Dominick for giving me this opportunity to become a trustee for this town. I have lived in this town for the past 43 years and this makes me the happiest person in the world, for being a person working continuously not only for personal reasons but also for the services that we provide to the community,” Vargas said.
” I want to thank all of the directors who work under you because they are actually they help our community to ensure that the services are accomplished and taken care of.”
Vargas also thanked each and every member of the board individually including Town Attorney Michael Del Galdo.
Síndicos de Cicero Garcia, Cava ,Vargas juramentaron nuevos términos
Los Síndicos de Cicero, Víctor García, John Cava y Blanca Vargas, juraron sus nuevos mandatos en la reunión de la Junta del Municipio de Cicero del 9 de mayo de 2023 luego de sus exitosas elecciones el mes pasado.
Los síndicos fueron agasajados en una celebración por el Municipio después de la reunión de la junta y se les unieron amigos y familiares.
“Felicitaciones a las tres personas trabajadoras que viven en el Municipio de Cicero. Hacen un gran trabajo para el Municipio. Han vivido aquí por mucho tiempo y saben lo que la gente necesita y lo que quiere”, dijo el residente del Municipio, Larry Dominick.
“Felicitaciones y sigan con el buen trabajo”.
Víctor García es un coordinador de patrocinadores del distrito del Parque Clyde, donde trabaja desde 2007. Comenzó su servicio público en 2005 con la elección del Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick, trabajando como coordinador de proyectos especiales en la oficina del presidente y también como miembro electo de la Junta de Comisionados del Distrito del Parque Clyde.
García también se desempeñó como miembro del Comité de Desarrollo Comunitario y de la Junta de Zonificación del Muncipio de Cicero. Anteriormente, antes de ingresar al servicio del gobierno, trabajó en la industria manufacturera, donde también se desempeñó como delegado principal del sindicato.
También se desempeña como miembro de la junta de la Hermandad Nazarena y se ha ofrecido como entrenador voluntario para las ligas juveniles locales de baloncesto, béisbol y fútbol.
Víctor está casado con María y tienen tres hijos, Víctor, Edwin y Evelyn. Los García han vivido en el Municipio de Cicero por más de 20 años. La familia García participa activamente en la Iglesia Católica a través de varias iglesias en el Municipio de Cicero.
“Quiero agradecer en nombre de mi familia el apoyo que he recibido”, dijo García.
“Es muy emotivo estar aquí. He servido seis años y quiero agradecer al Presidente Dominick y a la junta por su apoyo. Estoy muy orgulloso de servir al Municipio de Cicero y quiero agradecer a todos los residentes por su confianza.”
John Cava nació y se crió en la Municipio de Cicero. Cuando era niño, asistió a la Escuela Primaria Drexel antes de ir a la Escuela Secundaria St. Joseph en Westchester. Después de graduarse, continuó su educación en Triton College.
John está casado con su esposa, Alice, y tiene 3 hijos, Travis, Tiffany y Eugenia, y cuatro nietos, Isabela, Lucia, CJ y Alana. John fue empleado del Distrito Escolar 99 de Cicero durante 35 años, los últimos 27 en la Escuela Este de Cicero, antes de jubilarse en junio de 2018.
Cuando era niño, John jugaba béisbol en la Liga Pequeña de Cicero del Sur antes de unirse al béisbol de la Legión Americana y más tarde al béisbol de la escuela secundaria. Fue elegido miembro de la Junta de la Biblioteca de Cicero, sirviendo durante 6 años. En su tiempo libre le gusta viajar, su casa, la jardinería, su piscina y salir a cenar. ¡Él siempre está listo para ver y explorar nuevos lugares!
Blanca Vargas es la tercera latina en servir como síndica, nombrada para el cargo el 22 de marzo de 2022 llenando la vacante creada por el fallecimiento el 7 de enero de 2022 del exsíndico Larry Banks.
“Quiero agradecer al Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick y a la junta por su apoyo y ayudarme en todo lo posible. Y a los residentes de Cicero por creer en mí al elegirme a mí y a mis compañeros síndicos para otro mandato”, dijo Cava.
La Sra. Vargas, que tiene dos hijas, Sarah y Bianca, comenzó su activismo en 1972 trabajando como enlace hispano para el exgobernador Dan Walker y luego para el gobernador Pat Quinn.
Fue la primera mujer hispana en ser elegida para el cargo de miembro del Comité Demócrata en 2018, cargo del que renunció para asumir su asiento en la Junta Municipal.
Vargas también ha trabajado con LULAC, la Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos, y en 2021 se desempeñó como enlace hispano para el Municipio de Cicero hasta su nombramiento.
“Gracias a todos los que están aquí. Quiero agradecer al Presidente Larry Dominick por darme esta oportunidad de convertirme en sindico del Municipio. He vivido en este Municipio durante los últimos 43 años y esto me hace la persona más feliz del mundo, por ser una persona que trabaja continuamente no solo por motivos personales sino también por los servicios que brindamos a la comunidad”, dijo Vargas.
“Quiero agradecer a todos los directores que trabajan con ustedes porque en realidad ayudan a nuestra comunidad a garantizar que los servicios se realicen y se atiendan”.
Vargas también agradeció a todos y cada uno de los miembros de la junta individualmente, incluido el abogado municipal Michael Del Galdo.
