Cicero’s Morton Park Fire Station receives new Sutphen Fire Engine

The Morton Park Fire Station located at 5303 West 25th Street receives a brand new fire engine. ‘This is a brand new Sutphen fire engine,” explained Fire Chief Jeff Penzkofer when we visited the Firehouse on 25th street.
“Our department was a bit overdue for a rig or two. This is the first of two new rigs that President Dominick approved. In the future we are also getting a new truck,” said Chief Penzkofer.
In addition, Chief Penzkofer explains why the Cicero Fire Department needed this new engine.
“Our other engine was serviceable it was good but overtime the maintenance and the many repairs was an inconvenience for everybody. Now, that we have a new engine it’s like having a brand new car. There shouldn’t be any problems. We are going to be spending less money on repairs. It was long overdue anyways,” Penzkofer said.
The Cicero Fire Department has three fire stations. They are located at: 5303 W. 25th Street; 601 S. Central Ave; and 5410 W. 34th Street.
“As you know Cicero is a very busy Town. A dense population so we want something very dependable. Even though our other rigs were dependable they kind of used up their life span. Having a new engine now we can roll to all of our calls with confidence. Show up to work everyday the moral is a little bit high knowing we have a newer piece of equipment and then the confidence translates into a better safety for all of the Citizens of Cicero,” explained Chief Penzkofer.
Asked how the firefighters feel about having a new fire engine, Penzkofer said, “Now everybody wants to be at this firehouse and be on this rig but they pick their rigs ahead of time. I don’t want to jump the gun but we are going to be getting another new engine and it is identical to this in June or July. It’s like getting a new toy. People want to be on it, they want to work with it, they want to use it.”
The new fire engine has already been called to respond to a few fires.
Chief Penzkofer described to us what was the difference between Fire Trucks and Fire Engines.
“There are Fire Trucks there are fire engines. A lot of people using them interchangeably. A fire truck which this is not this is a fire engine carries all the tools, the jaws of life, ladders, cribbing and tools firemen need to get into places, open up holes and saws. This is a fire engine also known as a pumper they carry the water they also have some tools to an extent but for the most part a pumper is an engine. The engine carries the water. This has all the hoses.
Chief Penzkofer showed us all the different compartments the new fire engine has and all the hoses it carries. He also described how in the middle of the new engine is a tank which holds all the gallons of water.
“This puts out the fire,” said Chief Penzkofer.
The Cicero Fire Department’s mission statement is: “To protect and preserve the life and property of the Cicero residents through community outreach, education, and high quality professional emergency services” and thanks to this brand new engine our fire department will continue to keep Cicero safe.

Nueva bomba de bomberos Sutphen en la estación de bomberos de “Morton Park”
La estación de bomberos de “Morton Park”, ubicada en la 5303 Oeste de la calle 25, recibe un nueva bomba de bomberos. “Este es una bomba de bomberos Sutphen completamente nuevo”, explicó el jefe de bomberos Jeff Penzkofer cuando visitamos la estación de bomberos en la calle 25.
“Nuestro departamento estaba un poco atrasado por una plataforma o dos. Esta es la primera de dos nuevas plataformas que aprobó el presidente Dominick. En el futuro también obtendremos un camión nuevo”, dijo el jefe Penzkofer.
Además, el Jefe Penzkofer explica por qué el Departamento de Bomberos de Cicero necesitaba esta nueva bomba. “Nuestra otra bomba se podía reparar, era buena, pero las horas extraordinarias de mantenimiento y las muchas reparaciones eran un inconveniente para todos. Ahora que tenemos una bomba nueva es como tener un auto nuevo. No debería haber ningún problema. Vamos a gastar menos dinero en reparaciones. De todos modos, se había retrasado mucho”.
El Departamento de Bomberos de Cicero tiene tres estaciones de bomberos. Están ubicados en:
5303 oeste de la calle 25
601 sur de la avenida central
5410 oeste de la calle 34
“Como sabes, Cicero es un Municipio muy ocupado. Una población densa, por lo que queremos algo muy confiable. A pesar de que nuestros otros equipos eran confiables, agotaron su vida útil. Con una bomba nueve, ahora podemos atender todas nuestras llamadas con confianza. Preséntarnos al trabajo todos los días, la moral es un poco alta sabiendo que tenemos un equipo más nuevo y luego la confianza se traduce en una mejor seguridad para todos los ciudadanos de Cicero”, explicó el jefe Penzkofer.
Le pregunté al Jefe Penzkofer cómo se sienten los bomberos acerca de tener una nueva bomba de bomberos. Él dijo: “ahora todos quieren estar en esta estación de bomberos y estar en esta plataforma, pero eligen sus plataformas con anticipación. No quiero adelantarme, pero obtendremos otra bomba nueva y es idéntica a este en junio o julio. Es como tener un juguete nuevo. La gente quiere estar en él, quiere trabajar con él, quiere usarlo”.
La nueva bomba de bomberos ya ha sido llamado a algunos incendios.
El jefe Penzkofer nos describió cuál era la diferencia entre camiones de bomberos y bombas de bomberos.
“Hay camiones de bomberos, hay bombas de bomberos. Mucha gente los usa indistintamente. Un camión de bomberos, que esto no es esto es una bomba de bomberos, lleva todas las herramientas, las mandíbulas de la vida, escaleras, apuntalamiento y herramientas que los bomberos necesitan para llegar a lugares, abrir agujeros y sierras. Este es una bomba de bomberos también conocido como autobomba. Llevan el agua. También tienen algunas herramientas hasta cierto punto, pero en su mayor parte, un autobomba es una bomba. La bomba lleva el agua. Este tiene todas las mangueras.
El jefe Penzkofer nos mostró todos los diferentes compartimentos que tiene la nueva bomba de bomberos y todas las mangueras que lleva. También describió cómo en el medio del la nueva bomba hay un tanque que contiene todos los galones de agua.
“Esto apaga el fuego”, dijo el jefe Penzkofer.
