Cicero co-Hosts with Cook County Sheriff vehicle light repair program
Successful Car Lights Repair Program sponsored by Town President Larry Dominick, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, County Commissioner Frank Aguilar, Morton College and the Cicero Police Department.
The Town of Cicero is proud to help its residents everyday. On Thursday, August 10 it was all about helping to get your damaged headlights, tail lights or license plate lights repaired. The Cook Sheriff’s office partnered with Morton College and The Town of Cicero to provide the free service to our residents.
It all began with Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias who thought Ciceronians could benefit from this helping hand, who called Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar to assist in bringing the Sheriff’s program to Cicero.
“I put Commissioner Frank Aguilar in contact with Deputy Superintendent Dominic Schullo and President Larry Dominick gave his blessing. We reached out to Morton College as you could see this is a beautiful facility,” said Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias.
“You need to have turn signals, lights so other cars can see other vehicles. You don’t want to get into accidents. A lot of accidents are caused by cars not turning their turn signals on. Then having no headlights, so you can’t see in the middle of the night,” said Deputy Superintendent Dominic Schullo.
Schullo was very proud to be part in making this great event possible.
“President Larry Dominick is one of the most giving persons that I’ve ever dealt with. He’s very good at what he does,” added Deputy Superintendent Schullo.
“It’s a lifesaving program,” said Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar. Who also thanked Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, President Larry Dominick and Morton College.
“I would like to give a shout out to Deputy Superintendent Dominic Schullo who’s been really working hard putting it all together with my staff and the sheriff’s staff as well,” added Commissioner Aguilar.
“The Cook County Sheriff’s brought in this amazing team,” stated Clerk Punzo-Arias. She added, “I gotta say the mechanics are doing an extremely amazing job”.
“It’s nice to see that the residents are taking advantage,” added Clerk Punzo-Arias.
“Special thanks to our Cicero Police Department, our Town President Larry Dominick, Cook County Sheriff Thomas Dart and Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar. And again special thanks to Dominic Schullo for making all of this possible,” said Clerk Punzo-Arias. Who hopes the car repair program becomes an annual event.
“This is our 12th car repair event in and around Cook County,” said Cook County undersheriff Marlon Parks.
“I think the Town of Cicero and Morton College has been awesome. This is one of the best venues that we’ve worked in because it’s convenient for people to get in and out,” said Undersheriff Park. He also explained the process, “once you pull in, if you’re registered, we have your part waiting, and then we just fix your part and you’re off you’re on your way. You never have to get out of your car”.
There was also a pill drop off station for any expired medication.
“We don’t want you putting it in the garbage or flushing it down the toilet,” said Deputy Superintendent Schullo.
“We are so pleased to be able to open our facilities up for a community service like this,” said Morton College President Dr. Keith McLaughlin. Who stated he thought it was “just so beneficial to our residents to be able to bring their vehicles in”.
“This is the first time that we’ve hosted it here and we are really looking forward to having this become a regular opportunity for our community,” said Morton College President Dr. Keith McLaughlin.
“Town President Larry Dominick does a lot of stuff for residents here in Cicero. We just decided to expand the project a little further and that’s why we brought in car lights. We’ve had multi car accidents based upon no headlights and no turn signals. So why not give just a little bit more to the residents,” said Deputy Superintendent Schullo whose number one priority is keeping Cicero safe.
The car light repair program was a complete success. Almost 60 cars were repaired in just three hours.

Exitoso Programa de Reparación de Luces de Autos patrocinado por el Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick, el Sheriff del Condado de Cook Tom Dart, el Comisionado del Condado Frank Aguilar, Morton College y el Departamento de Policía de Cicero.
El Municipio de Cicero se enorgullece de ayudar a sus residentes todos los días. El jueves 10 de agosto se trató de ayudar a reparar las luces delanteras, traseras o de la placa de matrícula de su automóvil. La Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Cook se asoció con Morton College y el Municipio de Cicero para brindar este servicio gratuito a nuestros residentes.
Todo comenzó con la Secretaria Municipal Maria Punzo-Arias, quien pensó que los ciceronianos podrían beneficiarse de esta ayuda y llamó al Comisionado del Condado de Cook, Frank Aguilar, para que ayudara a llevar el programa del Sheriff a Cicero.
“Puse en contacto al Comisionado Frank Aguilar con el Subsuperintendente Adjunto Dominic Schullo y el Presidente Larry Dominick dio su aprobación. Nos pusimos en contacto con Morton College, como pueden ver, esta es una instalación hermosa”, dijo la Secretaria Municipal Maria Punzo-Arias.
“Necesitas tener señales de giro, luces para que otros autos puedan ver tu vehículo. No querrás tener accidentes. Muchos accidentes son causados por autos que no encienden sus señales de giro. Luego, al no tener luces delanteras, no puedes ver en medio de la noche”, dijo el Subsuperintendente Adjunto Dominic Schullo.
Schullo estaba muy orgulloso de ser parte de la realización de este gran evento.
“El Presidente Larry Dominick es una de las personas más generosas con las que he tratado. Es muy bueno en lo que hace”, agregó el Subsuperintendente Adjunto Schullo.
“Es un programa que salva vidas”, dijo el Comisionado del Condado de Cook, Frank Aguilar, quien también agradeció al Sheriff del Condado de Cook, Tom Dart, al Presidente Larry Dominick y a Morton College.
“Quiero dar un reconocimiento al Subsuperintendente Adjunto Dominic Schullo, quien ha estado trabajando arduamente para organizar todo junto con mi personal y el personal del sheriff”, añadió el Comisionado Aguilar.
“El Sheriff del Condado de Cook trajo a este increíble equipo”, declaró la Secretaria Municipal Punzo-Arias. Agregó: “Tengo que decir que los mecánicos están haciendo un trabajo extremadamente sorprendente”.
“Es bueno ver que los residentes están aprovechando esto”, agregó la Secretaria Municipal Punzo-Arias.
“Agradecemos especialmente a nuestro Departamento de Policía de Cicero, a nuestro Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick, al Sheriff del Condado de Cook Thomas Dart y al Comisionado del Condado de Cook Frank Aguilar. Y nuevamente, un agradecimiento especial a Dominic Schullo por hacer todo esto posible”, dijo la Secretaria Municipal Punzo-Arias, quien espera que el programa de reparación de autos se convierta en un evento anual.
“Este es nuestro 12º evento de reparación de autos en el Condado de Cook y sus alrededores”, dijo Marlon Parks, subjefe del Condado de Cook.
“Creo que el Municipio de Cicero y Morton College han sido increíbles. Este es uno de los mejores lugares en los que hemos trabajado porque es conveniente para que las personas entren y salgan”, dijo el Subjefe del Condado. También explicó el proceso: “una vez que entras, si estás registrado, tenemos tu pieza esperando, y luego simplemente arreglamos tu pieza y te vas. Nunca tienes que salir de tu auto”.
También había un puesto para depositar pastillas medicinales vencidas.
“No queremos que las tires en la basura ni las arrojes al inodoro”, dijo el Subsuperintendente Adjunto Schullo.
“Estamos muy contentos de poder abrir nuestras instalaciones para un servicio comunitario como este”, dijo el Presidente de Morton College, Dr. Keith McLaughlin, quien afirmó que pensó que era “muy beneficioso para nuestros residentes poder traer sus vehículos”.
“Esta es la primera vez que lo organizamos aquí y estamos deseando que se convierta en una oportunidad regular para nuestra comunidad”, dijo el Presidente de Morton College, Dr. Keith McLaughlin.
“El Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick hace muchas cosas por los residentes aquí en Cicero. Decidimos expandir un poco más el proyecto y por eso trajimos las luces de los autos. Hemos tenido accidentes automovilísticos múltiples debido a la falta de luces delanteras y señales de giro. Entonces, ¿por qué no dar un poco más a los residentes?”, dijo el Subsuperintendente Adjunto Schullo, cuya prioridad número uno es mantener a Cicero seguro.
El programa de reparación de luces de autos fue un éxito completo. Casi 60 autos fueron reparados en solo tres horas.
