Cicero names Natalie Baeza as the Pageant Queen for Mexican Independence 2022-23
On Thursday, September 8, under an atmosphere of celebration and joy at the Cicero Community Center, the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee held its annual election for the Queen of Cicero.
Indiana University student Natalie Baeza, 22, was crowned the Queen of Cicero 2022-23 on Thursday night. An outstanding student in the Health Administration Career, during her reign, Natalie Baeza will represent the Mexican community in the numerous events that take place in this city throughout the year.
“I am very excited for this recognition. My experience during this contest taught me a lot about myself: to have confidence, motivation and determination,” Natalie Baeza said.
“I developed a discipline that helped me achieve my goals; I learned positive attitudes and enjoyed the time I spend with my colleagues. There have been many emotions in a short time but they are memories that we create together.”
Finally, Cicero’s new Pageant Queen added, “A phrase that helped me throughout this process was ‘Competition is the vehicle with which internal and external character is honored, polished and sharpened, success is achieved by young women, that they become the best people they can be’.”
For her part, Maru Ayala, President of the Cicero Mexican Culture Committee, expressed her gratitude to Cicero Town President Larry Dominick as well as to the city’s Board of Trustees and also to the Cicero Office of Special Events.
“On behalf of the Committee I appreciate the support that the President of the City gives us in order to carry out these celebrations that are so important for our Latino community, especially the Mexican that resides in Cicero,” Ayala said.
“After two years of absence, it is a joy to be here again, celebrating with all of you and continuing the tradition that began more than a decade ago in this great city. We are proud to transmit the Mexican culture to the new generations.”
President Dominick also express his gratitude to the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee which organized the events along with the Town of Cicero Special Events Department, expressing gratitude to Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar for his support and leaders.
“The Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee and Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar, who originally founded it, have done so much to support our community and engage as fully as possible the Mexican American community,” President Dominick said.
Brenda Nava was elected as the First Pageant Princess and Fernanda Barrios as the Second Pageant Princess.
The three candidates will be present during the week of the Mexican National Holidays in Cicero that will take place from Sept. 15 through Sept. 18, including at the Festival Fairgrounds at 34 Street and Laramie Ave., and leading the parade on beginning at 12 noon on Sunday Sept. 18 along Cermak Road. They will also represent the community at the annual El Grito ceremony to be held Sunday night at the festival fairgrounds at 34th and Laramie.

Natalie Baeza, Reina de Cicero 2022-23
El pasado jueves 8 de Septiembre , bajo un ambiente de fiesta y alegría en el Centro Comunitario de Cicero el Comité Cultural Mexicano de Cicero llevó a cabo su anual elección de Reina de Cicero.
Estudiante de la Universidad de Indiana, Natalie Baeza, de 22 años, la noche del jueves se coronó como la Reina del Cicero 2022-23.
Destacada estudiante en la Carrera de Administracion de la Salud, durante su reinado, Natalie Baeza representará a la comunidad Mexicana en los numerosos eventos que a lo largo del año se llevan a cabo en esta ciudad.
“Estoy muy emocionada por este reconocimiento”, expresò Natalie, “mi experiencia durante este concurso me enseñó mucho de mi misma: a tener confianza, motivación y determinación”, dijo. “Desarollé una disciplina que me ayudo a lograr mis objetivos; aprendí actitudes positivas y disfruté el tiempo que pase con mis compañeras . Han sido muchas emociones en un tiempo corto pero son memorias que creamos juntas.”
El presidente Dominick también expresó su agradecimiento al Comité Cultural Mexicano de Cicero, que organizó los eventos junto con el Departamento de Eventos Especiales del Pueblo de Cicero, expresando su agradecimiento al Comisionado del Condado de Cook, Frank Aguilar, por su apoyo y líderes.
“El Comité Cultural Mexicano de Cicero y el comisionado del condado de Cook, Frank Aguilar, quien lo fundó originalmente, han hecho mucho para apoyar a nuestra comunidad e involucrar lo más posible a la comunidad mexicoamericana”, dijo el presidente Dominick.
Finalmente, la nueva representante de Cicero comentó: “Una frase que me ayudó durante todo este proceso fué: “La competencia es el vehículo con el cual se honra, pule y afila el caràcter interno y externo, el éxito es alcanzado por las jóvenes mujeres que se convierten en las mejores personas que pueden ser”.
Por su parte, Maru Ayala, Presidente del Comite Cultura Mexicano de Cicero expresò su agradecimiento al Presidente de Cicero, Larry Dominick asi como la Junta de Directores de la ciudad al igual que a la Oficina de Eventos Especiales de Cicero: “ En nombre del Comité agradezco el apoyo que el Presidente de la Ciudad nos da a fin de llevar a cabo estos festejos tan importantes para nuestra comunidad Latina, especialmente la Mexicana que reside en Cicero. Después de dos años de ausencia es una alegría estar de nueva cuenta aqui, celebrando con todos ustedes y continuando con la tradición que inició hace mas de una década en ésta gran ciudad. Nos sentimos orgullosos de tranmmitir la cultura Mexicana a las nuevas generaciones”.
Brenda Nava fué elegida con la Primer Princesa y Fernanda Barrios como la Segunda Princesa.
Las tres seleccionadas estarán presentes en la semana de las Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas en Cicero que se llevará a cabo del 15 al 18 de septiembre y que incluyen el Festival en la Calle 34 y Laramie Ave., el desfile el domingo 18 por la calle Cermak y la ceremonia de El Grito el domingo por la noche en el festival.
