Annual Easter Celebrations moved Indoors

The Town of Cicero hosted its popular annual Easter in the Park celebration on Saturday April 1 to welcome the Easter Holidays and the new spring season with games, holiday decorations and gifts for the children.

The annual festival was originally planned to be held outdoors at Cicero Community park, 34th S. Laramie Avenue. But because the weather was considered too cold, and rainy, it was moved indoors to the Cicero Community Center, 2250 S. 49th Avenue.

“We decided yesterday to relocate it because of the high winds. If the winds are over seven miles per hour, we cannot put up any of our inflatables,” said Special Events Director Patty Salerno.

“We have a great staff that was just able to turn it over and come out and help. We actually set up at 9:00 in the morning for this event. It’s a large event. Every year the line stretches outside around the buildings.”

In addition to the many inflatable Jumping Jack houses for the kids, set up indoors in the gymnasium, the Easter Bunny greeted children who gathered in several rooms waiting for children to take photographs and receive gifts. The children were also able to enjoy arts and crafts at the center.

Families had a great time taking pictures with the Easter Bunny. The children received a bag of candy to put in their easter basket. Before the event ended dozens of Easter baskets were raffled off.

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate this year that did not stop the staff of special events from continuing to bring the Easter Bunny to all the wonderful kids in the beautiful Town of Cicero.

“This is one of most popular family events and while we were disappointed we could not enjoy it in warmer weather outside in Cicero Community Park, I know that all of the children and their families had a great time,” said Town President Larry Dominick.
