Cicero’s commitment to honoring the town’s cultural diversity continued on Feb. 13 as the town celebrated Lithuania’s independence as well as Presidents Day during a ceremony at the Community Center.
Sponsored by Town President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and the Office of Special Events, the celebration featured remarks about Lithuanian Independence and the American Presidency. Attendees learned about the 102nd anniversary of Lithuania’s independence after World War One, which was renewed after the collapse of the Soviet Union 30 years ago.
The town also honored George Washington and US Presidents with Illinois ties: Abraham Lincoln, U.S. Grant, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. The two holidays have been combined as a combined ceremony since 2005.
