Thousands of students from the J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 marched down 26th street displaying their Morton Pride as part of the homecoming festivities on October 2.
The homecoming parade featured students from both Morton East in Cicero and Morton West in Berwyn travelling from East to West yelling out “Who are we? We are Mustangs!” while displaying signs and banners promoting various programs such as the drama club, modern languages, band and more. The students were joined by faculty and staff members as they continued to Morton Stadium for a pep rally in the afternoon before the Friday night game against Willowbrook High School of Villa Park.
“We had a wonderful turnout of students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters who are proud to be a part of Morton 201’s efforts to provide excellent education to our students,” said Jeffry Pesek, Morton 201 School Board President. “The tailgate party, with live DJ and food provided by local establishments, really kicked off the evening excitement that punctuated Morton’s homecoming.”
The 38-31 loss to Willowbrook did not dampen festivities as both Morton East and West hosted their homecoming dances the next evening with students packing the gyms for the events.
