On Thursday July 2nd, Town President Larry Dominick, First Lady Diana Dominick, Town officials, residents, family members, and friends gathered to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of Mona Lisa Café and Studio, a unique new destination located at 5706 W. Cermak Road that blends specialty coffee, educational workshops, and community connection under one roof.

The celebration represented far more than the opening of another business. It was the realization of a lifelong dream, the revitalization of a commercial storefront, and another example of the continued investment transforming Cicero’s business community.

Business License Director Ismael Vargas welcomed the crowd by recognizing the collaborative effort that makes every new business possible.

“Opening a business is truly a team effort,” Vargas said. “Our Business License Department works closely with the Health Department, Building Department, Fire Department, and many other Town employees to help entrepreneurs navigate the process. We all share the same goal—helping businesses succeed.”

He praised owner Yesenia Cervantes for her perseverance throughout the licensing process, noting that her determination never wavered despite the challenges that come with opening a business.

When Town President Larry Dominick stepped to the podium, his message reflected the Town’s longstanding commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs.

“We love welcoming new businesses to our town because we don’t like empty buildings,” President Dominick told the crowd. “Empty buildings often attract crime, so thank you for investing in our community. We wish you and your family nothing but the very best of luck. God bless you and your business—we’re always here to help.”

Looking around the packed café, President Dominick smiled as he remarked that it was one of the largest crowds he had ever seen for a ribbon-cutting ceremony—an early sign of the excitement and support surrounding the new business.

First Lady Diana Dominick congratulated Cervantes on reaching such an important milestone and thanked her for making Cicero the home of her new business.

Town Assessor Emo Cundari, Trustee Blanca Vargas, and Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias also welcomed Mona Lisa Café and Studio to the community, praising the owner’s dedication and encouraging residents to continue supporting local businesses that strengthen Cicero’s neighborhoods and economy.

For Cervantes, however, the celebration was deeply personal.

Standing before a room filled with supporters, she reflected on the journey that brought her to this moment.

“My background is in education and workforce development,” she shared. “One day I told myself I wanted to open a business, just like my mom did, and now here I am in Cicero.”

Choosing Cicero, she explained, was never a difficult decision.

“Why Cicero? Because I love it here,” she said. “I feel safe, my clients feel safe, and more importantly, this community feels like family.”

Her vision extends far beyond serving coffee.

Built inside the former Los Amigos location, Mona Lisa Café and Studio is designed to be a welcoming gathering place where guests can enjoy specialty coffee, refreshments, snacks, and ice cream while participating in educational workshops, creative programming, and community events.

“My passion is education,” Cervantes said. “I hope to host workshops where families, women, men, and neighbors can come together. I truly believe the best conversations happen over food and coffee. When you have good company, good friends, and people who believe in you, anything is possible.”

Following the ceremony, Cervantes reflected on what the day meant to her family.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in our lives,” she said. “When I was a little girl, I dreamed of opening a place where people could come together to eat, learn, and connect. Today, Mona Lisa Café and Studio is becoming that dream.”

She describes Mona Lisa as more than a café.

“It’s a feeling,” she said. “A place where people can gather, create, learn, and grow together. I believe education and food go hand in hand, and that’s exactly what Mona Lisa is all about.”

El jueves 2 de julio, el Presidente del Municipio de Cicero, Larry Dominick, la Primera Dama Diana Dominick, funcionarios municipales, residentes, familiares y amigos se reunieron para celebrar la inauguración y ceremonia de corte de cinta de Mona Lisa Café and Studio, un nuevo establecimiento ubicado en 5706 W. Cermak Road, que combina café especializado, talleres educativos y un espacio para conectar con la comunidad.

La celebración representó mucho más que la apertura de un nuevo negocio. Fue la realización de un sueño de muchos años, la transformación de un espacio comercial y otro ejemplo del crecimiento continuo de la comunidad empresarial de Cicero.

El Director del Departamento de Licencias Comerciales, Ismael Vargas, dio la bienvenida a los asistentes y destacó el trabajo en equipo que hace posible la apertura de cada nuevo negocio.

“Para abrir un negocio se necesita el esfuerzo de muchas personas,” expresó Vargas. “El Departamento de Licencias Comerciales trabaja junto al Departamento de Salud, Construcción, Bomberos y muchos otros empleados del Municipio para ayudar a los empresarios durante todo el proceso. Todos compartimos la misma meta: ayudar a que los negocios tengan éxito.”

Vargas también reconoció la dedicación de la propietaria, Yesenia Cervantes, quien permaneció enfocada en su objetivo a pesar de los retos que implica iniciar un negocio.

Durante la ceremonia, el Presidente Larry Dominick destacó la importancia de continuar apoyando a los empresarios locales.

“Nos encanta dar la bienvenida a nuevos negocios en nuestro Municipio porque no queremos edificios vacíos,” dijo el Presidente Dominick. “Los edificios vacíos muchas veces atraen el crimen, así que gracias por invertir en nuestra comunidad. El Presidente Dominick también destacó la gran cantidad de personas que asistieron al evento, señalando que fue una de las ceremonias de corte de cinta con mayor participación que ha visto.

La Primera Dama Diana Dominick felicitó a Yesenia Cervantes por este importante logro y agradeció que haya elegido a Cicero como el hogar de su nuevo negocio.

“Gracias por elegir Cicero y convertirse en parte de nuestra comunidad,” expresó. “Apreciamos su inversión y le deseamos muchos años de éxito y prosperidad.”

El Asesor del Municipio Emo Cundari, la Sindica Blanca Vargas y la Secretaria Municipal Maria Punzo-Arias también felicitaron a Yesenia y dieron la bienvenida a Mona Lisa Café and Studio, resaltando la importancia de apoyar a los negocios locales que fortalecen la economía y los vecindarios de Cicero.

Para Yesenia Cervantes, este día marcó el comienzo de un nuevo capítulo.

“Mi experiencia es en educación y desarrollo laboral,” compartió. “Un día me dije que quería abrir un negocio, igual que lo hizo mi mamá, y ahora aquí estoy en Cicero.”

Cervantes explicó que eligió Cicero porque encontró un sentido de comunidad.

“¿Por qué Cicero? Porque me encanta este lugar. Me siento segura, mis clientes se sienten seguros y, más importante aún, esta comunidad se siente como una familia.”

Mona Lisa Café and Studio, ubicado en el antiguo local de Los Amigos, busca ser mucho más que una cafetería. El establecimiento ofrecerá café especializado, bebidas, aperitivos, helados y talleres educativos donde familias, vecinos y miembros de la comunidad podrán reunirse, aprender y compartir.

“Mi pasión es la educación,” dijo Cervantes. “Espero organizar talleres y eventos comunitarios donde familias, mujeres, hombres y vecinos puedan reunirse. Creo que las mejores conversaciones ocurren alrededor de la comida y el café.”

Al concluir la ceremonia y realizar el tradicional corte de cinta, familiares y amigos celebraron junto a Yesenia el inicio de esta nueva aventura.
