Houby’s Golden Anniversary Announced

Houby is turning 50 and the Office of Special Events needs your help!

The annual Houby International Festival runs from Oct. 4-7 this year, a joint celebration with the Town of Cicero and City of Berwyn. The celebration ends with the  Houby Day Parade running down Cermak Avenue between both towns.

To help with the celebrations, the Office of Special Events is looking for memorabilia, old T-shirts and pictures that can be used for a special display. If you have anything to lend to the celebration, please contact Cynthia Salvino at 708-656-3600, Ext. 288.

“We want to honor the half-century Cicero and Berwyn have been celebrating the Houby,” said Cynthia Salvino.

A celebration of the Czech and Slovak heritage, the Houby honors early 20th Century settlers in the area. The word means mushrooms in both Czech and Slovak, an important winter staple for the Eastern European nations.
