The Cicero Basement Flood Prevention Program helps homeowners impacted by the 2023 severe flooding event install backflow prevention systems. These systems help keep basements dry by reducing the risk of flooding and sewer backups during heavy rains.

The program is being funded with just over $20 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

What the program may provide 

The program may provide assistance for: 

• Installation of backflow prevention systems (sewer check valves) 

• Reimbursement for eligible homeowners who installed a qualifying system after the July 2023 storms  

Who Is Eligible 

You may qualify for the program if: 

• Own and live in a property impacted by the 2023 flash flooding
• Live in the Town of Cicero
• Have a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), as defined by HUD
• Have applied for FEMA or SBA disaster assistance following the storm
• Maintain current homeowners insurance with a sewer backup rider endorsement

Eligible Property Types

• A single-family home with up to 2 units
• A multi-unit property with up to 5 units

 The intake center is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
