Established in 1993, the Five Time Illinois Governor’s Home Town Award Winning Cicero Youth Commission and the Children’s Center “Hold My Hand Award” recipient offers quality programs for the youth of Cicero.  Town President Larry Dominick continues to be a staunch supporter of the CYC. The mission is to provide educational and recreational opportunities for the youth of Cicero oftentimes focusing on total family involvement.  Activities are conducted after school and weekends throughout the year.

The CYC has trained members of the Character Counts Initiative fostering an atmosphere of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Citizenship and Caring.

Four CYC After School Programs meet Monday – Friday from 3-6 pm at  Cicero Community Center, CYC Ogden, Sherlock School and Lincoln School.

The After School Program includes social opportunities, collaborative learning and Academic Enrichment. Read Alouds with Character Discussion, Book Report Writing, Writing Skills, Math Games, Computer Activities, Scientific Method Reports, Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Large Group Games, Homework Help, Movie Viewing, Holiday Themed Parties, Snacks and More are a part of the curriculum.

CYC Annual Summer Camp includes: Each week involves a theme including: Science Week, Pirate Week, Hawaiian Week, Carnival Week, Olympic Week, Wacky Week, and Talent Week. Daily curriculum activities are designed in accordance with the week’s theme. Swimming is scheduled three days per week.

Throughout the year the CYC offers a variety of large-scale special programs including:

  • Summer Science Mini Camp
  • Annual Easter Bunny Event
  • Arts and Craft Class
  • Computer and Cooking Classes
  • Mother/Son Dance
  • Annual Olympic Youth Picnic
  • Annual Halloween Party
  • Hawaiian Luau Family Party

The CYC proudly works in collaboration with school district 99, Dominican University, Military Families of Cicero United, Boys Club of Cicero, UCP Seguin, Our Lady of Charity, St. Frances of Rome, Boy Scouts of America and Project Night Night.

The CYC “Comfy Covers” Program involves fleece blankets created by student After School Program participants by forming knots to combine fleece material into a warm and comfortable cover. These beautiful blankets have been donated to an orphanage in Ecuador, a Hospital in Guatemala, the President’s Office for persons with disabilities, Project Night Night, and to veterans after recently serving their tour of duty for the U.S.

The CYC will continue to Preserve the Past, Respect the Present, as we plan for the future for the children of our community.
