The Cicero Police Department Gang Crimes Tactical Unit is charged with suppression of and response to incidents involving street gangs within the Town of Cicero.
Over the past several years, and thanks to the efforts of the Gang Crimes Tactical Unit, the Town of Cicero has seen a dramatic decrease in gang related violence. From 2000 to May of 2005 — the five ½ years prior to Cicero Town President Larry Dominick taking office — there were 270 gang related shooting and 42 gang related homicides within the Town of Cicero. From May of 2005 through 2010 we were able to decrease those numbers to 146 gang related shooting and 18 gang related homicides. There wasn’t a single gang-related homicide in the Town of Cicero in 2011.
Through utilizing resources from the State, County, and local levels, the Town of Cicero is working proactively to combat gangs. We ask the citizens of Cicero to continue to get involved. We need the citizens to be our eyes and ears. We need the citizens to report suspicious activity to the police department. The quicker we can address these problems the better off everyone will be.
