Cicero Seniors Take a Lively Summer Trip to GermanFest in Milwaukee

This past Friday, July 25, a lively group of Cicero’s senior residents hit the road for a festive day trip to GermanFest in Milwaukee—one of the Midwest’s longest-running celebrations of German culture, food, and music. The summer sun was shining and spirits were high as the group departed from the Public Safety Building, ready for a day of fun, flavor, and fellowship.

Organized by the Cicero Senior Center, the outing was part of the department’s ongoing commitment to keeping residents active and connected through cultural experiences and seasonal adventures. For many of the participants, it was their first time attending GermanFest, and it didn’t disappoint.

Once at the lakefront festival grounds, the group enjoyed the sounds of live polka bands, traditional German folk dancing, and, of course, hearty helpings of bratwurst, sauerkraut, and warm pretzels. Seniors cooled off with scoops of Cedar Crest Ice Cream and took in the beautiful lakefront scenery—some even soared above the grounds on the Skyglider, taking in sweeping views of Milwaukee and Lake Michigan from above.

“It’s always so special to see our seniors exploring new places and making memories together,” said Diana Dominick, Director of the Cicero Senior Center. “Whether it was tasting something new, enjoying the music, or riding the Skyglider, this trip gave them a chance to relax, laugh, and just have fun—and that’s what these summer outings are all about.”

But beyond the food and fun, it was the camaraderie that made the day unforgettable. Laughter echoed under the festival tents, photo ops were snapped with scenic backdrops, and new friendships blossomed.

As the buses rolled back into Cicero later that evening, tired smiles and happy chatter filled the air—a sure sign of a summer day well spent.

Adultos Mayores de Cicero Disfrutan de un Alegre Viaje de Verano al GermanFest en Milwaukee

Este pasado viernes 25 de julio, un animado grupo de adultos mayores del Municipio de Cicero emprendió un viaje festivo rumbo a GermanFest en Milwaukee, una de las celebraciones más antiguas del Medio Oeste dedicadas a la cultura, gastronomía y música alemana. Bajo el sol del verano y con gran entusiasmo, el grupo partió desde el Edificio de Seguridad Pública, listo para un día lleno de diversión, sabor y compañerismo.

Organizado por el Centro de Adultos Mayores de Cicero, el paseo fue parte del compromiso continuo del departamento de mantener a los residentes activos y conectados a través de experiencias culturales y aventuras de temporada. Para muchos de los participantes, era su primera vez asistiendo a GermanFest, y no los decepcionó.

Ya en los terrenos del festival frente al lago, el grupo disfrutó de música en vivo con bandas de polka, bailes folclóricos tradicionales alemanes y, por supuesto, abundantes porciones de bratwurst, chucrut y pretzels calientes. Los asistentes se refrescaron con helado de Cedar Crest y apreciaron la hermosa vista del lago—algunos incluso se animaron a subir al Skyglider, una atracción elevada desde la cual pudieron admirar impresionantes panorámicas de Milwaukee y el Lago Míchigan.

“Siempre es algo muy especial ver a nuestros adultos mayores explorando nuevos lugares y creando recuerdos juntos,” comentó Diana Dominick, Directora del Centro para Adultos Mayores de Cicero. “Ya sea probando algo nuevo, disfrutando de la música o subiendo al Skyglider, este viaje les dio la oportunidad de relajarse, reír y simplemente pasarla bien—y de eso se tratan estas salidas de verano.”

Pero más allá de la comida y la diversión, fue la camaradería lo que hizo que el día fuera inolvidable. Las risas resonaban bajo las carpas del festival, se tomaron fotos frente a paisajes pintorescos, y florecieron nuevas amistades.

Cuando los autobuses regresaron a Cicero esa misma tarde, sonrisas cansadas y charlas alegres llenaban el ambiente—una clara señal de un día de verano bien aprovechado.
