Cicero Police officer Frank Diaz honored for military service
Deputy Supt. Frank Diaz was recognized by the U.S. Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) an all volunteer office of the Department of Defense to strengthen support of employees who serve in the military Guard or the Reserves.
The award was presented to Deputy Supt. Diaz by Mike Greco, a volunteer with ESGR, an area chair for northern Illinois.
Diaz was nominated for the ESGR “Patriot Award” for their support of employees who are members of the guard and the reserve.
“Frank is receiving this award for being an excellent leader, and an excellent support of our men and women in our department who serve in the Armed Forces. He has been exemplary of his support of them,” said Cicero Police Chief Thomas Boyle.
“Deputy Supt. Frank Diaz is a great leader,” Greco said.
“You are a patriot in no uncertain terms. … The entire Cicero police department are strong advocates and supporters of the military.”
Over 50 percent of the U.S. Military force is comprised of Guard and Reserve members,” Greco told the board at its meeting on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Accompanied by his family, Diaz expressed his gratitude to the ESGR, Mr. Greco and Town of Cicero officials.
“President Dominick, Town of Cicero officials, I want to commend you all for your continued support for the Police Department and the men and women of the United States military,” Diaz said.
“It is with great honor that I receive this award. … I am a proud veteran of the United States Army. I was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, the 101st Air Assault Division from 91 to 95. Serving my country and the Town of Cicero community, are two things that I will always cherish. My heart is and will always be with the men and women of the United States military and with the members of the Cicero Police Department.”
Diaz was nominated by Cicero Sgt. Jose Sanchez, who holds the rank of Command Sgt Major in the U.S. Army Reserves.
