Cicero Health Department hosts First Annual Men’s Health Event
The First Annual Men’s Health Event took place on Thursday June 15th at the Cicero Community Center. The Director of Health Management Vanessa Parrish and the new Director of the Cicero Health Department, Laura Rubio, organized this unique event tailored to men’s health.
The men of Cicero were able to take advantage of male focused free health screenings, and free haircuts and nail trimmings with Bell-Mar Beauty College.
“We advise them to do the health screenings because they are free (beneficial) and people should take advantage of those services,” said Director Rubio.
The free health screening included specialized labs, podiatry screenings, dental exams, blood pressures, height, weight and BMI’s.
“At the end they’ll check out with our nurse practitioner and she’ll give recommendations as to their screenings,” added Director Rubio.
“We’re really pleased to have the opportunity to address another area of our community that can truly benefit from our services,” said Director Parrish.
“On behalf of the Cicero Health Department, we are very enthusiastic in addressing all areas of health that we can as we continue to grow and are able to provide the relative information and services to support as much of our community’s needs as possible.” ( Said Vanessa Parrish )
The event began with a bi-lingual informational session on male focused health aspects. The presentation was given by Doctor Daniel Corredor in both Spanish and English.
“Especially now during June Men’s health month we know men’s health is not talked about enough,” said Doctor Corredor.
“These health problems can be prevented with regular follow-up and talking to your doctor. Especially with a little bit of prevention and a little bit of knowledge. Which is why I like to come here and give some information to help folks in the community understand a little bit more about health, make it a little bit more accessible and give them some tools to manage their own health to prevent these issues,” added Doctor Corredor.
In addition, there were free-giveaways and raffles.
