Cicero Fire Department Testing Announcement 2020

UPDATE: March 20, 2020

Due to the most recent Stay-at-Home-Order from the Governor (involving the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic) , the Cicero Fire and Police Commission will be suspending the fire fighter testing process until a later date.

Individuals who picked up applications will be also notified by email of this suspension of the process.  

The testing is suspended until further notice from the Fire and Police Commission.

On January 22, 2020 the Cicero Fire and Police Commission announced the eligibility test for the Cicero Fire Department.  Due to recent (January 23, 2020) negotiations between the Town of Cicero and the Cicero Firefighters Local 717 the requirements for hiring have been modified.  The new agreement calls for those who wish to test for the Cicero Fire Department to be certified as a firefighter and a licensed and certified paramedic.  The rest of the notice including dates will remain the same. Cicero Fire Department Testing Announcement

The Cicero Fire Department participates in a comprehensive testing process conducted by the Cicero Fire and Police Commission in order to prepare an eligibility list of qualified candidates for the Cicero Fire Department.  The current eligibility list will expire on April 18, 2020 and the testing process for creating a new list will begin on March 14, 2020 with the distribution of applications.  A maximum of 250 applications will be distributedApplications will be available for pick up on this date only (14 March 2020) from 10:00 AM until all applications are distributed or 6:00 PM, whichever is later.  Applications will be distributed at the Public Safety Building at 5410 W 34 St., Cicero, IL.  Applications and all documents that are required for qualification to participate will be returned by the applicant to the Cicero Fire and Police Commission on a later date. You will receive further instructions when you pick up the application.  ID is required!

The testing process is strenuous and time consuming.  Applicants must attend all events in person with photo identification.  After reviewing the below calendar, if you are unable to attend all events or do not possess the required qualifications please do not pick up an application.

The qualification requirements for participating in the process are:

  • 21 to 35 years of age at time of test (May 2, 2020);
  • US citizen;
  • speak, read and write the English language;
  • valid driver’s license (Illinois Driver’s License will be required at time of hire);
  • applicant must be a certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter with the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshall AT TIME OF APPLICATION;
  • applicant must be a certified Illinois Department of Public Health paramedic AT TIME OF EMPLOYMENT.
  • must be able to qualify into the Loyola Hospital EMS system AT TIME OF EMPLOYMENT;
  • no criminal background;
  • valid current Candidate Physical Ability Test card (CPAT) and LADDER CLIMB with an issue date no earlier than May 2, 2019..  You must obtain the CPAT card and LADDER CLIMB on your own, the Town of Cicero Fire and Police Commission will not be participating in a physical agility test or ladder climb with applicants;
  • provide an active (regularly monitored) email address.  All future communication will be by email only.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS – doors will be closed and admittance refused after posted start time for all events with the exception of application return dates at which time doors will be closed at posted end time.

14 March 2020, 10:00 to 6:00 PM or until 250 applications have been distributed.   At Public Safety Building, 5410 W 34 St.

26 or 27 or 28 March.  *26 or 27 March 2020 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm or * 28 March from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Applications are to be returned for approval and acceptance. Please bring copies of the following documents at this time; birth certificate or naturalization papers, driver’s license, fire fighter certificate, paramedic certificate and license and  DD 214 if applicable, passport size color photo and valid email address.  A $50 money order or certified check will be required at this time payable to the Town of Cicero (no cash or personal checks accepted).  At Public Safety Building, 5410 W 34 St.

06 April 2020, 7:00 pm.  Orientation at the Cicero Community Center gym.  2250 S 49 Ave.  Parking available in facility at south west corner of town hall campus.

02 May 2020, 9:00 am.  Written test, score of 70 is required to continue.  No electronic devices of any kind will be allowed in facility.  At Cicero Community Center  gym.

12 and 13 May 2020 at 5:00 pm.  Oral interviews for those who have passed  written exam.  Qualified applicants will be notified of appointment date and time.  At Cicero Community Center, room to be announced.
