The Town of Cicero came alive with excitement on Tuesday, August 5, as residents gathered at the Town of Cicero Courtyard to celebrate National Night Out — a nationwide event aimed at strengthening the relationship between residents and public safety officials.

Hosted annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out in Cicero has become a beloved tradition. This year marked almost two decades of the town’s participation and the 42nd year of the national initiative. The event was coordinated by the Town’s Special Events Department with the strong support of Town President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and all municipal departments.

Town President Larry Dominick emphasized the importance of the event. “National Night Out is important everywhere, but in Cicero, we go the extra mile. It brings the community together, especially the kids, to interact with police in a positive way and shows that summer is winding down and school is right around the corner.”

“This is my 18th year helping with National Night Out, and every year it gets bigger and better,” said Special Events Director Patricia Salerno. “It’s about bringing people together, having fun, and showing how much our town cares.”

Families enjoyed an evening full of free activities and giveaways, including pony rides, a petting zoo, carnival treats, senior bingo, and booths offering everything from pet tag engraving to school supplies. Local organization How to Fade, a barber and beauty school in Cicero, provided free haircuts and manicures. The Cicero Police and Fire Departments were out in full force, interacting with children and educating families on available services.

One of the evening’s highlights took place at the Cicero Community Center, where First Lady and Cicero Senior Center Director Diana Dominick organized an evening of Bingo fun, celebrating with Cicero’s senior community. President Dominick stopped by to call out a few bingo numbers alongside Mrs. Dominick — making it a night to remember.

After Bingo wrapped up, President Dominick joined the festivities in the courtyard — even taking a moment to dance and celebrate with residents.

The event also promoted Cicero’s Parent Patrol program, which invites parents to volunteer to help ensure the safety of children. Volunteers help guide students as they arrive and leave school, strengthening neighborhood safety.

“We call on our community to get involved,” said Town Chaplain and Parent Patrol Leader Ismael Vargas. “Becoming a Parent Patrol is one of the best ways to give back.”

Blanca Vargas, Cicero Town Trustee, echoed the spirit of the evening. “This event is joyful and important. It brings together seniors, young adults, and children, while also highlighting the services our town provides. We thank President Dominick and the Special Events team for always thinking of us.”

As the sun set on a warm summer evening, Cicero residents left the event with smiles, treats, and a renewed sense of connection to their neighbors and town leaders.

Cicero celebra la Noche Nacional Afuera con comunidad, diversión y seguridad

El Municipio de Cicero se llenó de emoción el martes 5 de agosto, cuando los residentes se reunieron en el patio del Municipio para celebrar la Noche Nacional Afuera — un evento a nivel nacional que busca fortalecer la relación entre los residentes y los funcionarios de seguridad pública.

Organizado cada año el primer martes de agosto, la Noche Nacional Afuera en Cicero se ha convertido en una tradición muy querida. Este año marcó casi dos décadas de participación del Municipio y el 42º aniversario de esta iniciativa nacional. El evento fue coordinado por el Departamento de Eventos Especiales con el firme apoyo del Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick, la Junta Directiva y todos los departamentos municipales.

El Presidente Larry Dominick enfatizó la importancia del evento. “La Noche Nacional Afuera es importante en todas partes, pero en Cicero vamos un paso más allá. Une a la comunidad, especialmente a los niños, para interactuar con la policía de una manera positiva y demuestra que el verano está por terminar y el regreso a clases se acerca.”

“Este es mi 18º año ayudando con la Noche Nacional Afuera, y cada año se hace más grande y mejor,” dijo la Directora de Eventos Especiales, Patricia Salerno. “Se trata de reunir a la gente, divertirnos y demostrar cuánto nos importa nuestro Municipio.”

Las familias disfrutaron de una tarde llena de actividades gratuitas y regalos, incluyendo paseos en pony, una pequeña granja, dulces de carnaval, lotería para adultos mayores, y puestos que ofrecían desde grabado de placas para mascotas hasta útiles escolares. How to Fade, una escuela de barbería y belleza en Cicero, ofreció cortes de cabello y manicuras gratis. Los Departamentos de Policía y Bomberos de Cicero estuvieron presentes en todo momento, interactuando con los niños y educando a las familias sobre los servicios disponibles.

Uno de los momentos más destacados de la tarde ocurrió en el Centro Comunitario de Cicero, donde la Primera Dama y Directora del Centro para Adultos Mayores, Diana Dominick, organizó una divertida noche de lotería con la comunidad de mayores de Cicero. El Presidente Dominick pasó a saludar y hasta cantó algunos números junto a la Sra. Dominick — haciendo que la noche fuera inolvidable.

Después de la lotería, el Presidente Dominick se unió a la celebración en el patio — incluso se tomó un momento para bailar y celebrar con los residentes.

El evento también promovió el programa Parent Patrol de Cicero, que invita a los padres a ser voluntarios para ayudar a garantizar la seguridad de los estudiantes. Los voluntarios ayudan a guiar a los alumnos al entrar y salir de las escuelas, fortaleciendo así la seguridad en el vecindario.

“Hacemos un llamado a nuestra comunidad para que se involucre,” dijo el Capellán Municipal y Líder del programa Parent Patrol, Ismael Vargas. “Ser parte de Parent Patrol es una de las mejores maneras de retribuir.”

Blanca Vargas, Síndica del Municipio de Cicero, también destacó el espíritu de la noche. “Este evento es alegre e importante. Reúne a los adultos mayores, jóvenes y niños, y también resalta los servicios que brinda nuestro Municipio. Agradecemos al Presidente Dominick y al equipo de Eventos Especiales por siempre pensar en nosotros.”

Conforme el sol se ocultaba en una cálida noche de verano, los residentes de Cicero se retiraron del evento con sonrisas, dulces y un renovado sentido de conexión con sus vecinos y líderes municipales.
