Cicero celebrates National Night Out honoring First Responders

Cicero celebrates National Night Out honoring First Responders

Hundreds of residents and families joined Town of Cicero officials on Tuesday August 2 at the Town of Cicero Community Center and courtyard in celebrating National Night Out which promotes the strengthening of the police-community partnership.

The event is organized each year by Town President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Supervisor Joe Virruso, Assessor Emilio Cundari, Collector Fran Reitz, and Trustees Victor Garcia, Bob Porod, John Cava and Blanca Vargas, and coordinated by the Town of Cicero Special Events Department Director Patti Salerno, and supported by the Town’s many departments.

“This is an important event to reinforce our support of the Cicero Police Department and all police across this country. They protect our citizens and make the Town safe,” said Town President Larry Dominick.

“It’s important to show our support especially at this time when in some segments we see an assault against police which undermines their ability to keep us safe.”

Police Chief Jerry Chlada and a contingent of police officers were present to thank residents for their support during the event which featured entertainment, food, games and information tables showcasing town services.

“The Cicero Police Department is always grateful for the support that we receive from President Dominick and the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees, from all of the town’s departments and most importantly from our community,” Chlada said.

“Knowing we have the support of the community is important and re-enforces our commitment to protect our community and its citizens everyday.”

Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias praised the police as the cornerstone of community safety.

“They make great sacrifices to keep us safe and it is important for us to show them that we appreciate their sacrifices and professional dedication,” Punzo-Arias said.

Many departments participated in supporting this year’s National Night Out including the Cicero Fire Department and newly appointed Fire Chief Jeff Penzkofer, and the Cicero Senior Center.

Cicero Senior Center Director Diana Dominick emphasizes: “Seniors are the most grateful for the support they get from the Police Department to keep them safe and to keep our community safe. Cicero also promotes the Town Neighborhood watch that takes place in the Cicero Senior Center, every third Tuesday of the month, which provide our community with the necessary information and resources to stay informed and involved within the community.”

“National Night Out gives our community the opportunity to say thank you,” director Dominick concluded.

Among the many groups attending the annual National Night Out 2022 were the Cicero Public Library, School District 99 and Morton High School District 201, and UCP Seguin.

Cicero celebra ‘National Night Out’, la noche organizada anualmente para unir a vecinos y autoridades, honrando este año a todos los socorristas del país.

Centenares de residentes y familias se unieron el martes 2 de agosto del 2022 a los funcionarios electos de Cicero en el Centro Comunitario y en el patio anexo, para celebrar la noche nacional que promueve el fortalecimiento de la asociación entre la policía y la comunidad, llamada ‘National Night Out’.

El evento es organizado cada año por el Presidente de Cicero Larry Dominick, con la ayuda de la Secretaria municipal María Punzo-Arias; del supervisor Joe Virruso; del Asesor Emilio ‘Emo’ Cundari; de la Recaudadora Fran Reitz y de los Síndicos Víctor García, Bob Porod, John Cava y Blanca Vargas. Todas las actividades son coordinadas por la Directora del Departamento de Eventos Especiales de Cicero, Patti Salerno y apoyado por todos departamentos del municipio.

“Este es un evento importante para reforzar nuestro apoyo al Departamento de Policía de Cicero y a todos los policías de este país. Ellos protegen a nuestros ciudadanos y hacen que nuestro municipio permanezca seguro”, dijo el Presidente Larry Dominick.

“Es importante mostrarles nuestro apoyo ahora, especialmente en este momento cuando algunos elementos de nuestra sociedad atacan a nuestras autoridades y policía. Tratan de quitarles su capacidad para hacer un buen servicio, que para un bien común y esto es para mantenernos a salvo.”

El jefe de policía Jerry Chlada y un contingente de policías estuvieron presentes para agradecer el caluroso apoyo de todos los residentes. El evento que contó con mucho entretenimiento, con deliciosos platillos, con entretenidos juegos y con variadas mesas informativas que mostraban los innumerables los servicios que ofrece el municipio de Cicero.

“El Departamento de Policía de Cicero está siempre agradecido por el apoyo que recibimos del presidente Dominick y de la Junta de Síndicos de Cicero; de todos los departamentos municipales y lo que es más importante, por el apoyo que sentimos de nuestra comunidad”, dijo el jefe Chlada.

“Saber que contamos con el apoyo de nuestra comunidad es importante y refuerza nuestro compromiso de protegerla y de estar pendientes de todos nuestros ciudadanos, todos los días”, agregó el jefe de policía.

La Secretaria María Punzo-Arias elogió a los oficiales de policía como la piedra angular de la seguridad de la comunidad.

“Hacen grandes sacrificios para mantenernos seguros y es importante para nosotros demostrarles que apreciamos sus sacrificios y su dedicación profesional”, dijo Punzo-Arias.

Muchos departamentos participaron en el evento, incluyendo al de Bomberos de Cicero y su recién nombrado Jefe de Bomberos Jeff Penzkofer. Así mismo, estuvo presente todo el personal del Centro para los Adultos Mayores de Cicero.

La Directora del Centro para Adultos Mayores de Cicero, Diana Dominick, enfatizó: “Las personas mayores son las más agradecidas por el apoyo que reciben del Departamento de Policía para mantener segura nuestra comunidad. Cicero también promueve la vigilancia del vecindario que se lleva a cabo en el ‘Centro para los Adultos Mayores de Cicero’, cada tercer martes del mes, que brinda a nuestra comunidad la información y los recursos necesarios para mantenerlos informados e involucrados en lo que acontece diariamente.”

“National Night Out le da a nuestra comunidad la oportunidad de decir gracias,” finalizó diciendo la directora Dominick.

Entre los muchos grupos que asistieron a la Noche Nacional anual del 2022 se encontraban los representantes de la Biblioteca Pública de Cicero, del Distrito Escolar 99, del Distrito ‘Morton 201’ de Escuelas Secundarias, y del programa ‘UCP Seguin’.
