The Town of Cicero proudly hosted its annual Mexican Independence Day Parade this past Sunday, September 14, bringing thousands of residents and visitors together for one of the community’s most beloved traditions. The parade kicked off at noon at Cermak Road and 50th Avenue, filling the streets with music, color, and excitement.
With a perfect backdrop of sunshine and mild temperatures in the mid-70s, the day couldn’t have been better for families lining the sidewalks to cheer on the parade. More than 100 floats participated, showcasing local businesses, schools, cultural organizations, and community groups—all coming together to honor Mexican heritage and pride.
Leading the celebration was Cicero President Larry Dominick, joined by his wife, First Lady Diana Dominick, as they rode atop the Special Events Fire Truck, waving to the enthusiastic crowd.
“This is one of the greatest events of the year in Cicero,” said President Dominick. “It’s about celebrating family, culture, and community, and I’m proud to see so many people come out to enjoy this tradition together.”
President Dominick also highlighted the importance of Cicero’s vibrant Mexican-American community: “Our town is strong because of the families who live here, raise their children here, and share their culture with us. This parade is a way of showing how much we appreciate and respect that.”
Throughout the afternoon, the sounds of mariachi bands, traditional dancers, and cheering crowds created an atmosphere of joy and unity. Children waved flags while families enjoyed the festive displays rolling down Cermak Road.
“This is what Cicero is all about,” added Dominick. “We’re one big family, and events like this bring us even closer.”
The parade once again proved to be a highlight of Cicero’s cultural calendar, offering a memorable celebration of Mexican independence, history, and community spirit.
Cicero celebra el Día de la Independencia de México con desfile anual
El Municipio de Cicero celebró con orgullo su desfile anual del Día de la Independencia de México este pasado domingo, 14 de septiembre, reuniendo a miles de residentes y visitantes en una de las tradiciones más queridas de la comunidad. El desfile comenzó al mediodía en la Avenida 50 y la Calle Cermak, llenando las calles de música, color y entusiasmo.
Con un clima perfecto de sol y temperaturas agradables en los 70 grados, el día no pudo haber sido mejor para las familias que se reunieron en las aceras para animar el desfile. Más de 100 carrozas participaron, mostrando negocios locales, escuelas, organizaciones culturales y grupos comunitarios, todos unidos para honrar el orgullo y la herencia mexicana.
Encabezando la celebración estuvo el Presidente de Cicero, Larry Dominick, acompañado por su esposa, la Primera Dama Diana Dominick, quienes saludaron a la entusiasta multitud desde lo alto del camión especial de eventos del departamento de bomberos.
“Este es uno de los mejores eventos del año en Cicero,” dijo el Presidente Dominick. “Se trata de celebrar a la familia, la cultura y la comunidad, y me enorgullece ver a tantas personas reunidas para disfrutar de esta tradición juntos.”
El Presidente Dominick también destacó la importancia de la vibrante comunidad mexicoamericana de Cicero: “Nuestro municipio es fuerte gracias a las familias que viven aquí, crían a sus hijos aquí y comparten su cultura con nosotros. Este desfile es una manera de mostrar cuánto apreciamos y respetamos eso.”
Durante la tarde, los sonidos de los mariachis, los bailarines tradicionales y los aplausos de la multitud crearon un ambiente de alegría y unidad. Los niños ondeaban banderas mientras las familias disfrutaban de las vistosas carrozas que recorrían la Calle Cermak.
“Esto es lo que representa Cicero,” agregó Dominick. “Somos una gran familia, y eventos como este nos unen aún más.”
El desfile una vez más demostró ser uno de los momentos más destacados del calendario cultural de Cicero, ofreciendo una celebración inolvidable de la independencia, la historia y el espíritu comunitario de México.
