The Town of Cicero came together today for a deeply meaningful and emotional milestone as officials, educators, students, and community members gathered for the groundbreaking of the Brian Dominick Early Childhood Center, located at 1630 S. 59th Avenue.

The site, once home to the former Daniel Burnham Elementary School, now begins a new chapter dedicated to the community’s youngest learners. The original school building has been demolished to make way for a modern early childhood center that will serve Cicero families for generations to come.

The ceremony was led by District 99 Superintendent Dr. Aldo Calderin, who welcomed attendees and spoke about the importance of investing in early childhood education. Calderin emphasized the long-term impact the new center will have on students and families, noting that the project represents both progress and purpose for District 99.

Following his remarks, District 99 Board President Tom Tomschin addressed the crowd, highlighting the collaboration behind the project and the importance of creating a strong educational foundation for young learners. The ceremony also included a prayer led by Town Chaplain Ismael Vargas, who offered words of blessing and hope for the future of the center and the children it will serve. President Larry Dominick, accompanied by his wife, First Lady Diana Dominick, was present and joined in breaking ground for the future site of the new center. The center is named in honor of his late son, Brian Dominick, who passed away on October 1, 2024, making the occasion especially emotional for the Dominick family and the entire community.

“This is more than a building—it’s a promise to our children and to our future,” said President Dominick. “Brian believed deeply in family, in community, and in giving every child the opportunity to succeed. Today is emotional for all of us, but it’s also a moment of pride. His name will live on here, in a place where young lives will grow, learn, and thrive. That’s the kind of legacy any father would hope for, and I know Brian would be proud of what we’re building together for the families of Cicero.”

Also in attendance were town trustees, the District 99 Board, school administrators, and students from District 99, whose presence served as a powerful reminder of the bright future this new facility is intended to support.

El Municipio de Cicero se reunió hoy para un momento profundamente significativo y emotivo, ya que funcionarios, educadores, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad se congregaron para la ceremonia de inicio de construcción del Centro de Educación Temprana Brian Dominick, ubicado en 1630 S. 59th Avenue.

El lugar, que anteriormente albergaba la Escuela Primaria Daniel Burnham, ahora comienza un nuevo capítulo dedicado a los estudiantes más pequeños de la comunidad. El edificio original ha sido demolido para dar paso a un moderno centro de educación temprana que servirá a las familias de Cicero por generaciones.

El Presidente Larry Dominick, acompañado por su esposa, la Primera Dama Diana Dominick, estuvo presente y participó en el acto simbólico de inicio de construcción del nuevo centro. El centro lleva el nombre de su difunto hijo, Brian Dominick, quien falleció el 1 de octubre de 2024, haciendo de esta ocasión un momento especialmente emotivo para la familia Dominick y toda la comunidad.

“Esto es más que un edificio—es una promesa para nuestros niños y para nuestro futuro,” dijo el Presidente Dominick. “Brian creía profundamente en la familia, en la comunidad y en brindar a cada niño la oportunidad de tener éxito.
