Statement from the Town of Cicero

We are aware of federal agent activity in the Town of Cicero today.

We have received no communication from any federal officials about this activity and were not told what they are investigating.

We also did not know federal agents were meeting early this morning in a health department parking lot and we were not told where they were going, as federal officials are not obligated to provide us with that information.

Those agents are no doubt aware that the Town of Cicero was the first Illinois municipality to be designated a “Safe Space,” where we recognize the rights of all residents, regardless of their citizenship, immigration or residency status, and that we strictly prohibit the use of our officers, resources or facilities to help enforce federal civil immigration laws.

Estamos al tanto de la presencia de agentes federales hoy en el Municipio de Cicero.
No hemos recibido ninguna comunicación por parte de autoridades federales respecto a esta actividad, ni se nos ha informado qué están investigando. Tampoco sabíamos que los agentes federales se reunirían esta mañana en el estacionamiento del Departamento de Salud, ni se nos indicó a dónde se dirigían, ya que los funcionarios federales no están obligados a proporcionarnos esa información.
Esos agentes, sin duda, están al tanto de que el Municipio de Cicero fue el primer municipio en Illinois en ser designado como un “Espacio Seguro”, donde reconocemos los derechos de todos los residentes, sin importar su ciudadanía, estatus migratorio o lugar de residencia, y donde está estrictamente prohibido que nuestros oficiales, recursos o instalaciones se utilicen para hacer cumplir leyes federales de inmigración civil.
