Laughter, gratitude, and heartfelt memories filled the Cicero Community Center on Wednesday, June 11 as the Town hosted its annual Senior Father’s Day Celebration, an event dedicated to honoring the incredible fathers and father figures in the community.
The event began with a warm welcome from Isabella Aguilar, Senior Center Administrative Assistant, who shared the day’s agenda with attendees. “Thank you to all who joined us today in celebrating Father’s Day,” she said. Guests were treated to a delicious lunch, refreshing piña coladas, and a spirited round of bingo with $15 gift cards for the winners. In addition, complimentary hair and nail services were offered in the hallway—courtesy of Town President Larry Dominick and Senior Center Director Diana Dominick.
Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Town Trustee Victor Garcia and Town Trustee Blanca Vargas were also present to celebrate alongside seniors, showing their ongoing support for community programs. Seniors were pampered thanks to generous services donated by Capelli Cosmetology, How to Fade Barber School, and Oak Street Health, all of whom offered their time and talent to help make the event even more special.
“We thank President Larry Dominick and Diana Dominick for organizing these wonderful events,” Aguilar added. “Thanks to their vision and commitment, it has become a beautiful tradition to honor our mothers and fathers annually.”
Taking the podium, Diana Dominick expressed her gratitude to all who made the celebration possible, including town volunteers, the Senior Commission, school districts 99 and 201, and local businesses that donated services.
“Today, we honor not only fathers and grandfathers,” she said, “but also those who have stepped into the role of a father with strength and devotion—whether they are mothers raising children alone or grandparents guiding the next generation.”
She continued, “A real father’s legacy is not just in raising children—it’s in shaping character, providing strength, and leading with love. Today, we say: we remember, we honor, and we are grateful. Happy Father’s Day to each and every one of you.”
In an on-camera interview, President Larry Dominick shared what the day meant to him personally. “This is about celebrating all those who take on the role of a father,” he said. “Some moms have had to be dads too. It’s just a good day, beautiful weather, the Cubs are winning, and it’s great to be here with everyone.”
Reflecting on his decades of community involvement, Dominick added, “I did Little League for 20 years. I may not be a dad to everyone, but there are many who still call me Dad. That means a lot to me.”
When asked what message he had for Cicero’s fathers, he replied, “Be a good father. Take care of your kids, give them good advice, treat them with love—and tell them you love them.”
Town Trustee Vargas also offered a heartfelt message: “To all the fathers in Cicero, I wish you the best. I hope you are happy with your families today. I honor my own father in heaven and send warm wishes to all the parents watching from above.”
As the event wrapped up, smiles, hugs, and shared stories highlighted the deep bond between fathers and their families.

Cicero celebra a los padres mayores con una emotiva reunión comunitaria
Risas, gratitud y recuerdos conmovedores llenaron el Centro Comunitario de Cicero el miércoles 11 junio, durante la celebración anual del Día del Padre para nuestros adultos mayores, un evento dedicado a honrar a los increíbles padres y figuras paternas de la comunidad.
El evento comenzó con una cálida bienvenida por parte de Isabella Aguilar, asistente administrativa del Centro para Adultos Mayores, quien compartió la agenda del día con los presentes. “Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron hoy para celebrar el Día del Padre,” expresó. Los asistentes disfrutaron de un delicioso almuerzo, piñas coladas refrescantes y un animado juego de bingo con tarjetas de regalo de $15 para los ganadores. Además, se ofrecieron servicios gratuitos de corte de cabello y uñas en el pasillo—una cortesía del Presidente Municipal Larry Dominick y de la Directora del Centro para Adultos Mayores, Diana Dominick.
También estuvieron presentes la Secretaria Municipal Maria Punzo-Arias, el Síndico Municipal Victor Garcia, y la Síndica Blanca Vargas quienes compartieron la celebración junto a los adultos mayores, demostrando su continuo apoyo a los programas comunitarios. Los asistentes fueron consentidos gracias a los servicios donados generosamente por Capelli Cosmetology, How to Fade Barber School y Oak Street Health, quienes ofrecieron su tiempo y talento para hacer aún más especial esta ocasión.
“Agradecemos al Presidente Larry Dominick y a Diana Dominick por organizar estos maravillosos eventos,” añadió Aguilar. “Gracias a su visión y compromiso, se ha convertido en una hermosa tradición rendir homenaje a nuestras madres y padres cada año.”
Al tomar el micrófono, Diana Dominick expresó su agradecimiento a todos los que hicieron posible la celebración, incluyendo a los voluntarios del municipio, la Comisión de Adultos Mayores, los distritos escolares 99 y 201, y a los negocios locales que donaron sus servicios.

En una entrevista frente a cámara, el Presidente Larry Dominick compartió lo que este día significaba para él en lo personal. “Se trata de celebrar a todos los que han asumido el papel de padre,” expresó. “Algunas mamás también han sido papás. Es un día bonito, con buen clima, los Cubs están ganando, y es una gran alegría estar aquí con todos.”
Reflexionando sobre sus décadas de participación comunitaria, agregó: “Fui entrenador de la liga infantil por 20 años. Tal vez no soy el papá de todos, pero hay muchos que todavía me llaman ‘papá’. Eso significa mucho para mí.”
Cuando se le preguntó qué mensaje tenía para los padres de Cicero, respondió: “Sean buenos padres. Cuiden a sus hijos, denles buenos consejos, tratenlos con amor—y díganles que los aman.”
La Síndica Municipal Vargas también compartió un mensaje emotivo: “A todos los padres de Cicero, les deseo lo mejor. Espero que estén felices con sus familias hoy. Honro a mi propio padre que está en el cielo y envío bendiciones a todos los padres que también nos ven desde allá arriba.”
Al concluir el evento, las sonrisas, los abrazos y las historias compartidas resaltaron el profundo lazo entre padres y familias.
