On the bright morning of Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, the Cicero Community Center was filled with joy, laughter, and the comforting smell of breakfast as seniors gathered to celebrate one of the most cherished holidays of the year—Mother’s Day.
The event began with a heartfelt welcome from Town Historian John Kociolko, who opened the ceremony by recognizing the leadership that made the gathering possible. With a round of applause, residents honored Town President Larry Dominick, whose dedication to Cicero’s seniors remains unwavering. “Let’s give a nice round of applause to our town president, the honorable Larry Dominick,” Kociolko said, setting a tone of gratitude and community.
Town Board members and devoted volunteers joined the celebration, including Senior Center Director and First Lady, Diana Dominick, who was met with warm applause for her continued commitment to the town’s older adults.
Taking the microphone, Diana shared a touching message about the meaning of Mother’s Day—not just a day of flowers and cards, but one to honor the love, strength, and selflessness of mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers. “Whether you are a mom, a grandmother, or someone who cared for another in a special way—we thank you. We see you. We celebrate you,” she said. Her words echoed across the room, reminding everyone of the deep bonds that unite the Cicero community.
This year’s celebration also featured contributions from generous local partners such as How to Fade Barberschool, Capelli Cosmetology, and Oak Street Health who helped pamper the seniors, while District 99 and 201 student volunteers brought youthful energy and smiles. Non-alcoholic piña coladas were served, and bingo cards were distributed as music played and friends reconnected.
President Dominick, always sincere and grounded, reminded attendees of the singular importance of mothers. “Every child has one mother. It could have two or three fathers, but they always have one mother,” he said, drawing nods and laughter from the crowd. “They deserve this day. They’ve earned it.”
Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias echoed the sentiment, thanking the seniors for a lifetime of dedication and hard work. “Now it’s our time to give back,” she said. Her words were a promise—that Cicero’s seniors are never forgotten or alone. Even small requests, like fixing an alley light, are treated with care and urgency.
Resident Frank Kraut shared a personal testimony that resonated with many. Once a young parent in Cicero, Frank raised his children under the town’s protective and nurturing leadership. Today, his son is a colonel in the U.S. Army and his daughter leads infectious disease care at Rush Hospital. “I attribute all that to raising them here in Cicero with Mr. Dominick’s leadership,” he said, visibly moved.
As the morning went on, the room was filled with music, smiles, and heartfelt conversations. Cicero’s Mother’s Day celebration wasn’t just an event—it was a reunion, a tribute, and a moment to honor the mothers and matriarchs whose quiet strength has shaped generations.

Las Personas Mayores de Cicero Celebran el Día de las Madres con Amor, Alegría y Gratitud
La mañana soleada del miércoles 7 de mayo de 2025, el Centro Comunitario de Cicero se llenó de alegría, risas y el reconfortante aroma del desayuno mientras las personas mayores se reunían para celebrar una de las fechas más queridas del año: el Día de las Madres.
El evento comenzó con un mensaje emotivo del Historiador Municipal, John Kociolko, quien dio la bienvenida a los asistentes y reconoció el liderazgo que hizo posible la celebración. Entre aplausos, los presentes honraron al Presidente Municipal, Larry Dominick, por su dedicación continua hacia los adultos mayores de Cicero. “Demos un fuerte aplauso a nuestro presidente municipal, el honorable Larry Dominick”, dijo Kociolko, marcando un tono de gratitud y comunidad.
Miembros del Consejo Municipal y voluntarios comprometidos también se hicieron presentes, incluyendo a la Directora del Centro de Personas Mayores y Primera Dama, Diana Dominick, quien fue recibida con calurosos aplausos por su esfuerzo incansable al servicio de la comunidad.

La Secretaria Municipal, María Punzo-Arias, agradeció a las personas mayores por su trabajo y entrega a lo largo de sus vidas. “Ahora es nuestro turno de retribuirles”, dijo. Aseguró que, más allá de los eventos, el Municipio está presente para atender sus necesidades, por pequeñas que parezcan. “Hace un momento, alguien pidió una luz para el callejón. Ese es nuestro compromiso: que nuestras personas mayores nunca se sientan solas.”
El residente de Cicero Frank Kraut compartió un testimonio que conmovió a muchos. Hace años, él crió a sus hijos en Cicero con la seguridad y el apoyo que le brindó la comunidad. Hoy, su hijo es coronel del Ejército de los Estados Unidos y su hija dirige el área de enfermedades infecciosas en el Hospital Rush. “Todo eso lo atribuyo a haberlos criado aquí en Cicero, bajo el liderazgo del Sr. Dominick”, dijo con orgullo.
Mientras avanzaba la mañana, el centro comunitario se llenaba de música, sonrisas y momentos compartidos. Esta celebración no fue solo un evento: fue un homenaje, un reencuentro y una expresión profunda de cariño hacia las madres y cuidadoras que han dado tanto por los suyos.
