Cook County is taking meaningful steps toward a healthier, greener future, and Cicero is playing a vital role in this vision. Last night, the Cicero Public Library hosted an important community event in partnership with the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability and the Environmental Justice Advisory Committee.
The event welcomed more than 75 attendees, including local officials and community members. Among the notable guests were Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar, Executive Director of Housing Tom Tomschin, and library representatives Anthony Grazzini, Mary Hernandez, and Rosalba Raygoza. The evening focused on environmental justice and policy development, sparking thoughtful discussions about a greener, healthier future for Cicero and beyond.
The program began with a bilingual presentation of the draft Environmental Justice (EJ) policy, highlighting ongoing initiatives such as lead service line replacements and zoning updates. Participants then broke into smaller groups to discuss critical topics like air quality, wastewater management, and water quality. These collaborative discussions generated optimism and hope for actionable change.
The success of the event is a testament to the leadership and vision of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Cicero Town President Larry Dominick. Their commitment to empowering communities ensures that residents have a voice in shaping policies that impact their health and quality of life. A special thanks goes to the Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability Director Deborah Stone, Deputy Director Kevin Schnoes, and their team for facilitating such an impactful event.
This gathering underscored the importance of collective action in building a sustainable future. The journey to a greener Cicero starts with every resident.
