Cicero Celebrates Volunteers and Community Spirit

A heartfelt celebration of community, service, and gratitude took center stage as the Town of Cicero hosted its annual holiday luncheon honoring the dedicated volunteers and public servants who tirelessly contribute to the town’s well-being — the Parent Patrols of Cicero. The event, organized with support from various town departments, highlighted the collective efforts of individuals striving to make Cicero a better place for all.
Sixteen years ago, the concept of the Parent Patrol program was proposed by Ismael Vargas, Town Chaplain and Business License Director. Embraced wholeheartedly by Town President Larry Dominick, the program has grown into a cornerstone of the community, embodying a spirit of unity and mutual care.
Town Collector Fran Reitz, who attended the luncheon, expressed her appreciation for the volunteers who work tirelessly to protect the youth and foster a safe environment.
“We are here today to show our gratitude for the remarkable contributions of our Parent Patrol volunteers,” Reitz stated. “Your commitment is an inspiration, and your efforts have a profound impact on our community. Offering small tokens of appreciation, such as free vehicle stickers, is the least we can do to thank you for your dedication.”
The luncheon also served as a platform to announce initiatives designed to benefit the community further. These include free pet ID engraving offered by the Collector’s Office to help ensure lost pets can be reunited with their families, as well as continued improvements in town safety, with the Cicero Police Department implementing advanced camera systems and license plate readers.
Multiple town directors were in attendance, including Senior Center Director Diana Dominick, Superintendent of Streets and Alleys Derek Dominick, Animal Control Director Erika Rosas, Executive Director of the Department of Housing Tom Tomschin, and Superintendent of District 99 Dr. Aldo Calderin.
The celebration reflected not only on the accomplishments of the year but also on the deeper meaning of the holiday season. “Christmas is a time of hope and reflection,” said Superintendent Dr. Calderin. “It’s about coming together as a community and recognizing the sacrifices made by those who serve and support us every day.”
The luncheon began with a prayer for continued growth, unity, and service in the coming year. Volunteers were encouraged to stay involved and continue building bridges between the town’s departments and its residents.
As the town looks forward to 2025, the commitment to service and community remains at the heart of Cicero’s mission. For those in need or seeking to contribute, officials reiterated that resources and support are always available through town offices.
