On Friday, December 13, 2024, the Cicero Community Center was filled with joy and tradition as the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee, in partnership with the Town of Cicero, hosted its annual posada. This beloved event brought together hundreds of residents to celebrate the holiday season with music, activities, and community spirit.

Commissioner Frank Aguilar reflected on the importance of the event and its longstanding tradition. “For almost 20 years, the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee has worked hard to make this event a success,” Aguilar said. “It’s all about giving back. Thanks to organizations like Toys for Tots and the many volunteers, every child here will leave with a gift. It’s a 100% volunteer effort, and the community’s generosity makes it all possible.”

The posada, a traditional Mexican celebration commemorating the journey of Mary and Joseph, featured something for everyone. Families enjoyed festive music, including performances by mariachi bands and the District 99 choir, while children participated in crafts, face painting, and raffles. Santa Claus made a special appearance, delighting children with gifts donated by sponsors such as Burger King and other local businesses.

Special Events Director Patty Salerno emphasized the collaborative effort behind the celebration. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of President Larry Dominick, the Board of Trustees, and the many organizations that came together,” Salerno said. “It’s a true team effort, with every detail—from the activities to the gifts—coming from donations and partnerships.”

Maru Ayala, President of the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee, expressed her gratitude for the support and the event’s growth over the years. “Every year, this celebration gets better,” Ayala said. “It’s a chance for the community to come together, enjoy music, and share the holiday spirit. We are so proud to see families leaving with smiles and memories they will cherish.”

The event, which had outgrown its previous location, now takes place at the Cicero Community Center to accommodate the increasing number of attendees. “This venue allows us to host everyone comfortably and provide ample parking,” said Ayala.

As the evening drew to a close, the festive atmosphere lingered, with attendees expressing their appreciation for the Town of Cicero’s dedication to fostering community spirit during the holiday season.

President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero remain committed to supporting events like the posada, ensuring that traditions are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
