Cicero Celebrates Annual Christmas Tree Lighting with Festive Cheer

Residents of Cicero braved the chilly temperatures in the mid-to-low 20s to gather at Cicero Community Park for the town’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The event, a cherished tradition, kicked off the holiday season with a mix of joy, community spirit, and festive fun.
On Sunday, December 1st, 2024 Cicero residents came together as friends, neighbors, and family to celebrate the joy and magic of the holiday season. The Department of Special Events planned a wonderful night, filled with holiday music, treats, and fun for all ages.
There was hot chocolate, festivities, including the opening of the ice rink, and the moment everyone had been waiting for—the lighting of our Christmas tree!
Director of Special Events Patty Salerno took the stage to welcome the crowd. “Hello everybody. Thank you for coming out on this chilly day,” she said. “On behalf of President Larry Dominick and the board of trustees, we welcome you to our annual Christmas tree lighting. If we can get a countdown, please, from 10!”
The crowd enthusiastically joined in the countdown: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
In an instant, the magical moment arrived. The Cicero Christmas Tree lit up, its lights casting a warm, festive glow over the park. Applause and cheers filled the crisp evening air.
“Thank you, everybody. We hope you stay and enjoy our crafts and horse carriage rides,” Salerno said. “Get on the ice and make sure the kids get to see Santa.”
Speaking about the event’s significance, Salerno shared, “This event has always had a great turnout. It’s a way to kick off our holiday season for our residents, kids, and families. The ice rink opens, kids come out and get to enjoy themselves. We get to see Santa. We try to provide hats and gloves to all the kids that come out. We give them activities and something fun. And safe for the families to do.”
Salerno emphasized the town’s dedication to its residents. “President Dominick’s goal is always to have community events for our families. I hope that families realize we try our best to provide a fun, safe environment. We also try to implement new programs and activities for the kids. 99% of our events are completely free. We love that Cicero residents come out and appreciate what we do.”
The highlight for many children was meeting Santa Claus. Amid the excitement, Santa stopped to answer a few questions. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Santa laughed and replied, “Well, I’d say carrots, but the reindeer always get those. So mostly for me, I like cookies.”
When pressed on his favorite kind, he grinned and said, “Chocolate chip. I like chocolate chip cookies. What about you?”
Auriyana Montenegro, a young attendee, enthusiastically chimed in, “I like Oreos!”
Santa nodded approvingly, asking, “Do you dip them in milk too?” Auriyana nodded her head with a big smile.
Before Santa continued his rounds, he shared a message with the community. “I will show up on Christmas! Merry Christmas!!”
The evening continued with horse-drawn carriage rides, crafts, ice skating, and plenty of holiday cheer. Once again, Cicero’s Christmas Tree Lighting proved to be a magical start to the holiday season for all who attended.

Los residentes de Cicero desafiaron las frías temperaturas que rondaban los 20 grados Fahrenheit para reunirse en el Parque Comunitario de Cicero para la iluminación anual del árbol de Navidad del municipio. El evento, una tradición muy querida, dio inicio a la temporada navideña con una mezcla de alegría, espíritu comunitario y diversión festiva.
El domingo 1 de diciembre de 2024, los residentes de Cicero se unieron como amigos, vecinos y familias para celebrar la alegría y la magia de la temporada navideña. El Departamento de Eventos Especiales organizó una noche maravillosa, llena de música navideña, delicias y diversión para todas las edades. Hubo chocolate caliente, festividades, incluyendo la apertura de la pista de hielo, y el momento que todos esperaban: ¡la iluminación de nuestro árbol de Navidad!
La directora de Eventos Especiales, Patty Salerno, subió al escenario para dar la bienvenida a la multitud. “Hola a todos. Salerno destacó la dedicación del municipio hacia sus residentes. “El objetivo del presidente Dominick siempre es tener eventos comunitarios para nuestras familias. El punto culminante para muchos niños fue conocer a Santa Claus. En medio de la emoción, Santa se detuvo a responder algunas preguntas. Cuando le preguntaron qué quería para Navidad, Santa se rió y respondió: “Bueno, diría zanahorias, pero los renos siempre se las llevan. Así que para mí, me gustan las galletas.”
Cuando le preguntaron cuál era su tipo favorito, sonrió y dijo: “De chispas de chocolate. Me gustan las galletas de chispas de chocolate. ¿Y a ti?”
Auriyana Montenegro, una joven asistente, respondió con entusiasmo: “¡Me gustan las Oreos!”
Santa asintió con aprobación, preguntando: “¿También las mojas en leche?” Auriyana asintió con una gran sonrisa.
Antes de continuar con su recorrido, Santa compartió un mensaje con la comunidad. “¡Estaré aquí en Navidad! ¡Feliz Navidad!”
La noche continuó con paseos en carruajes tirados por caballos, manualidades, patinaje sobre hielo y mucha alegría festiva. Una vez más, la iluminación del árbol de Navidad de Cicero demostró ser un inicio mágico para la temporada navideña para todos los asistentes.
