Public Works Keeping Roads and Alleys Clean

You may have noticed your streets and alleys a little bit cleaner this summer, and that’s thanks to a program that President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero support to keep the teenagers in town busy working.

 “We are cutting and trimming. My job is to make sure that all the weeds are gone and there is no garbage left between the toters,” said Manuel Davila the lead coordinator of the summer program at Public Works.

“I have to make sure the alleys are nice and clean.”

Different crews are going around all throughout town cleaning up with weed whackers, picking up garbage and just making and keeping our town beautiful.

“This is a great program because by us moving all the garbage cans there’s no garbage left for the rodents,” shared Davila.

He oversees 12 teenagers in his bus and describes them as, “awesome kids”.

Some have weed whackers, others carry blowers and the rest come and pick up the garbage.

“If it’s something very large I contact my supervisor and he will send a dumb truck or a sweeper,” said Davila.

“It’s a very good program because you keep them away from trouble and at the same time they make a couple of dollars”.

Davila is a Cicero resident of more than 47 years and stated, “I love my Town!”

Obras públicas mantienen limpias las calles y callejones

Es posible que haya notado que sus calles y callejones están un poco más limpios este verano, y eso es gracias a un programa que el presidente Larry Dominick y el municipio de Cicero apoyan para mantener a los adolescentes del municipio ocupados trabajando.

 “Estamos cortando y recortando. Mi trabajo es asegurarme de que desaparezcan todas las malas hierbas y que no quede basura entre los botes de basura”, dijo Manuel Dávila, coordinador principal del programa de verano de Obras Públicas.

“Tengo que asegurarme de que los callejones sean agradables y limpios”.

Diferentes equipos están recorriendo toda el municipio limpiando con desmalezadoras, recogiendo basura y simplemente haciendo y manteniendo nuestro municipio hermoso.

“Este es un gran programa porque al mover todos los botes de basura no queda basura para los roedores”, compartió Dávila.

Supervisa a 12 adolescentes en su autobús y los describe como “niños increíbles”.

Algunos tienen desmalezadoras, otros llevan sopladores y el resto viene a recoger la basura.

“Si es algo muy grande me comunico con mi supervisor y él me envía un camión de la basura o una barredora”, dijo Dávila.

“Es un programa muy bueno porque los alejas de los problemas y al mismo tiempo ganan un par de dólares”.

Dávila es un residente de Cicero desde hace más de 47 años y afirmó: “¡Amo mi municipio!”
