Children and families gathered together at Cicero’s Community Center in late March to witness a reincarnation of the long tradition through Easter in the Park. Through increased coordination between the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Cicero Youth Commission, residents were able to meet with the Easter Bunny, enjoying a variety of fun activities for the kids, and receive an Easter basket filled with special treats and treasures.
“We want to make sure everyone has a chance to celebrate the holiday with their friends and family but also experience the traditions they may have with their churches,” said Patricia Sturdevant, who helped coordinate the event. “Combining the celebrations and holding Easter in the Park the week before Easter allows that to happen.
Because of the weather this year, celebration was moved from Community Park to the center. It was the 26th annual visit from the Easter Bunny through the CYC program.
Town President Larry Dominick praised the cooperation between the two departments.
“I am thankful they were able to focus on the needs of our children and families, making sure everyone had a chance to celebrate the holiday with their own traditions,” Dominick said.
