Cicero Fire Adds to Ranks While Police Announce Promotions

Cicero’s Police and Fire Departments announced some changes to their forces during the June 26 board meeting.

New firefighters were sworn in, including Angelo Buscemi, son of Fire Chief Dominick Buscemi.

“It’s been a dream of his for years,” Dominick Buscemi said of his son. “It’s always been something he wanted to do and wanted to work for, just like the other candidates.”

All three candidates became firefighters after earning their certifications and passing rigorous training.

Cicero Police promoted officers, including First Deputy Superintendent Luis M. Guttierez, who retired as the Illinois State Police Field Support Commander after 28 years of service.

“It’s important we stay on top of new techniques and perspectives on the force, and Guttierez will add greatly in that arena.”

Guttierez takes the place of former First Deputy Barrett Marlar, who recently retired. Included in the promotions were two officers, Nino Scimone and Rhonda Kosenesky, who were promoted to captain.
