Morton High School District 201 has had its fair share of successful athletes and academics. But now, the district is ready to add a combination to its list as a group of student mathletes advanced to the state mathematics competition.
The calculator team comprising of Jesus Solis, Abigail Leon, Daniel Castillo, Elizabeth Castillo, and Javier Solis will compete at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, May 6, in the statewide contest sponsored by the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Jesus Solis will also compete as an individual in the Pre-Calculus competition. The annual event pits students from all over the state in a battle of mathematical exams and problems for teams and individuals to solve.
“Congratulations to every one of these brilliant math students who have worked hard over the past year to compete at the highest level for our state,” said Jeffry Pesek, Morton 201 Board of Education president. “We could not be prouder of the success these kids have had and wish them the best of luck at state.”
