A late Easter meant an early start on spring festivities for hundreds of Cicero families and children as they headed out for the annual Easter in the Park celebration. The annual outdoor event occurs the Saturday before Easter at Cicero’s Community Park at 34th & Laramie with kids eyeing the Easter goodies, taking time to ride the train throughout the park before meeting the Easter Bunny, and enjoying other activities.
This year’s festival started a new format where children received baskets to fill with candy and other treasures instead of participating in an Easter Egg roll.
“We’ve grown every year and reached the point where we needed to find new ways to have fun without anyone getting hurt,” said Patricia Dominick, director of the Department of Special Events. “By switching the format, we can have new activities like sack races while still ensuring everyone goes home with something.”
Town President Larry Dominick praised the Department of Special Events for bringing together the town’s residents for such a grand celebration.
“I’m happy to see everyone out to enjoy the warm weather and celebrate such an important day for many of us,” Dominick said.
